ETIHAD Expands Air Europa Codeshare Service from Nov 2014

ETIHAD on Monday 10NOV14 expanded codeshare partnership with Air Europa, which sees EY code being placed on selected domestic routes within Spain.

Planned new codeshare routes as follow.

Madrid – A Coruna
Madrid – Bilbao
Madrid – Lanzarote
Madrid – Las Palmas
Madrid – Tenerife North
Madrid – Vigo

Catering ampliato per Air Berlin sulle rotte brevi

Airberlin amplia il servizio catering sulle tratte a breve e medio raggio. Sui voli di 90 minuti e oltre, il vettore tedesco proporrà, oltre all’attuale scelta di piatti gourmet del ristorante Sansibar di Sylt e degli snack gratuiti, anche spuntini dolci e salati con una nuova selezione di sandwich.

Per i passeggeri vegetariani sarà a disposizione uno sfilatino tipico farcito con formaggio Emmental, formaggio fresco all’erba cipollina e un misto d’insalata. Il prezzo di ciascun sandwich è cinque euro. Altra novità sono i muffin al cioccolato o ai mirtilli, al prezzo di due euro l’uno. Per la prima volta airberlin propone anche il muesli, al prezzo di tre euro a porzione. «Sui voli verso la Germania, dopo le 19, proporremo un happy hour in base alle disponibilità, con tutti gli snack a un euro in meno, mentre per ciascun piatto gourmet del ristorante Sansibar di Sylt i nostri passeggeri risparmieranno, nella stessa fascia oraria, ben due euro» dice Thomas Ney, responsabile della Guest Experience in airberlin.

Fino alle dieci del mattino si potrà scegliere tra un brezel e un panino all’uvetta caldi. Sui voli in orari successivi il personale servirà invece uno snack salato, come ad esempio patatine, oppure uno snack dolce, per esempio una barretta al cioccolato.

ETIHAD to Add Baku / Tbilisi Service from Oct 2015

ETIHAD from October 2015 is adding 2 new destinations, with 4 weekly Abu Dhabi – Baku service from 01OCT15, followed by 3 weekly Abu Dhabi – Tbilisi from 02OCT15. A320 aircraft operates both routes.

airberlin transports Christmas trees for free

This year again, guests flying with airberlin on all international routes will be permitted to carry a Christmas tree at no extra charge. The tree can be up to two metres in length and must be declared at least 48 hours before departure by calling the airberlin service centre at +49 30 3434 3434 (local charges apply). This service is especially popular among flight guests travelling to Spain. Guests are also permitted to bring their Christmas trees on long-haul flights.

airberlin offers its guests an attractive programme each year under the motto ‘Flying home for Christmas’. The first airberlin Christmas plane is expected in Berlin on 27 November 2014 to kick off the Christmas festivities.

SAS and Etihad Airways announce codeshare plans

SAS, Scandinavia's leading airline, and Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, are set to begin codeshare operations and provide customers with enhanced travel options between Scandinavia and the UAE.

The agreement, which is subject to regulatory approval, will strengthen both carriers by enabling them to offer greater connectivity to and from a number of key European cities. SAS is Etihad Airways’ 47th airline partnership globally and its 22nd in Europe. For SAS, Etihad is the 23rdcodeshare partner and the third with strong presence in the Middle East.

Both airlines will also develop and sign a Frequent Flyer agreement, which will benefit the members of Etihad Airways’ Etihad Guest and SAS’ EuroBonus loyalty programs.

Kevin Knight, Etihad Airways’ Chief Strategy Officer, said: “This codeshare agreement with SAS will improve flight connections to Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen, as well as a number of important secondary cities across Scandinavia, greatly enhancing travel options and connections for air travellers and deepening our ties with Europe and European carriers.”

“Partnerships like this one with SAS are central to Etihad Airways’ strategy and we look forward to placing the SK code on our flights to and from Abu Dhabi, and welcoming their passengers aboard our aircraft.”

The deal will see SAS place its SK code on Etihad Airways’ flights between Abu Dhabi and Brussels, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Rome, Milan, Zurich, Geneva and London Heathrow.

In turn, Etihad Airways will place its EY code on SAS-operated flights from these European destinations, excluding Brussels, onto SAS’ hubs in Copenhagen, Oslo, and Stockholm.

The EY code will also be placed on flights beyond Copenhagen to Billund and Ålesund; beyond Oslo to Ålesund, Kristiansand, Trondheim, and Stavanger; and beyond Stockholm to Umeå, Sundsvall, and Östersund.

Eivind Roald, SAS’ Executive Vice President & Chief Commercial Officer said: “We are very pleased to announce this new codeshare cooperation with Etihad Airways and look forward to increase traffic between Scandinavia and the Middle East.”

“Tourism and trade between our regions have increased over the years, and we are happy offer the benefits of both SAS and Etihad Airways to our travellers. From seven of SAS’ main European airports we can offer a high quality product with Etihad Airways to and from Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates.”

Notes: The on-sale date for the codeshare is Monday 8 December 2014 and the first travel date is Monday 19 January 2015.

Etihad Airways has increased its stake in Virgin Australia to 22.9 per cent.
The Gulf airline raised its stake after purchasing 1.7 per cent of shares, according to a report in the Australian Financial Review.
The move would have been made possible after receiving Foreign Investment Review Board (FIRB) approval.
It means Etihad has now reached the maximum percentage share it is currently allowed to own in Virgin Australia.
Earlier this month, Etihad's 49 per cent stake in Alitalia was approved by the European Commission (see news, November 17).
Etihad also has also taken a share of Air Berlin, Aer Lingus, Air Seychelles, Air Serbia and Jet Airways.

Proviamo a dare un occhio alla route map: SA vola in Europa su Londra, Manchester, Francoforte, Monaco e Zurigo. Se si eccettua l'UK, feedera Lufthansa e Swiss.
Andiamo ad est: vola su Pechino, Hong Kong, Mumbai, Bangkok e Singapore, con l'aggiunta di Perth.
Andiamo ad ovest: vola su New York, Washington e San Paolo.
Le restanti destinazioni sono in Africa, e prevalentemente sotto il tropico del Cancro.

Insomma, sostituiamo Monaco e Zurigo con Düsseldorf (o Berlino) e Roma, ed il gioco è fatto.
Vedo molte sinergie con 'EY Group': il vettore è scarsamente posizionato in Asia, terreno appunto di EY. Potrebbe agevolmente instradare i sui passeggeri verso l'Europa attraverso AZ ed AB, e sostanzialmente non è in conflitto con alcuna compagnia Partner. Anzi, apporterebbe valore vista la sua capillare copertura africana.

Ho volato con loro quando c'era il volo stagionale da MXP, e mi ero trovato tutto sommato bene. E' una compagnia che a pelle mi è sempre piaciuta. Speriamo!!!!

EY sta costruendo una rete con cui possa, aeronauticamente parlando, dominare il mondo. Di SA non se ne cura.
Ammettiamo che riesca nel suo intento (e personalmente non ho dubbi che ci riuscirà, disponendo di capitali ingentissimi).
Da sempre mi sono chiesto se dal punto di vista culturale ed economico ciò possa considerarsi un bene o un male per l'Europa. Perché la supremazia in campo aeronautico potrebbe essere un prodromo di una supremazia culturale, perfino religiosa, in tempi lunghissimi ovviamente, che potrebbero vivere le generazioni future. Non ho una risposta, non ho una certezza da esternare.
Penso però che sia una sfida interessante per l'Europa, per tutti noi.
Interessante perché noi europei abbiamo tutte le potenzialità per poter proporre una collaborazione. Che sfoci in una sana contaminazione che porti ad un win win reciproco. Ovvero permetta a loro di investire e monetizzare i loro quattro spiccioli che hanno nel forziere, e nel contempo di far conoscere e diffondere la loro cultura, che ha elementi di interesse ed originalità notevoli per noi. Ma permetta anche a noi europei di non svendere la nostra identità e la nostra storia, così come di utilizzare i loro capitali per rafforzare un'economia devastata dalla crisi.
Sta a noi tirar fuori quell'anima del commerciante, abituato a discutere e contrattare fino allo sfinimento per difendere i nostri interessi. Per uscirne non vincitori, ma alla pari.
