Londra – Emirates, Rolls Royce e Airbus hanno raggiunto un accordo che consentirà a Emirates di posticipare la consegna di sei A380 dal 2017 al 2018 e di altrettanti aerei dal 2018 al 2019. Secondo Aviation Week, che ha immediatamente ripreso la notizia, Emirates non avrebbe annunciato pubblicamente le ragioni del ritardo ma è verosimile che il vettore stia almeno in parte rispondendo al repentino calo degli yield osservato nel 2016. È altresì possibile che la scelta sia stata influenzata da problemi di performance riscontrati da Emirates al momento della consegna dei primi A380 motorizzati Rolls Royce.
Airbus, che aveva già annunciato la riduzione del rateo di produzione dell’A380 a 20 aerei nel 2017 e 12 all’anno dal 2018 in poi, potrebbe essere costretta ad anticipare il taglio.
Le difficoltà del programma A380 non sono isolate: mentre l’ammiraglia del gruppo Airbus fatica a trovare acquirenti per 12 aerei all’anno, Boeing ha dovuto tagliare la produzione del 747-8 a soli sei esemplari all’anno – la fine dell’era dei quadrigetto potrebbe essere imminente.
