Jet Airways, India's premier international airline today announces the launch of its daily services from Mumbai to San Francisco via Shanghai, effective May 5, 2008**. With the commencement of this new flight Jet Airways will become the first Indian carrier to operate non-stop daily flights to Shanghai from Mumbai and onward to San Francisco.

Jet Airways will become the first private Indian airline to connect the financial heart of India, Mumbai with "Everybody’s Favorite City," San Francisco. With the famed Silicon Valley to its south – the heart of America’s technology revolution has a large concentration of Indian IT professionals who have made an invaluable contribution towards Indo-American cooperation in high technology areas. This new flight will drastically cut down the traditional flying time between India and the US West Coast, besides tapping into latent passenger demand by connecting two prominent Asian financial and commercial hubs- Mumbai and Shanghai. As only the second airline worldwide to connect Shanghai and San Francisco, Jet Airways will cater to the large volumes of business and leisure travel between the two cities, fuelled in part by the strong Chinese presence in the latter city. San Francisco, incidentally, is home to the largest Chinatown in the United States.

Jet Airways’ flight to San Francisco International Airport will also be the airline's fourth daily departure from India to North America, following new launches of service from New York's JFK and Newark airports, and Toronto Pearson International Airport, within the past year. San Francisco is a popular tourist and business destination, with the launch of its famed ‘white-glove’ services to the city, Jet Airways expects the route to prove one of its most popular sectors.

Announcing the launch of these new flights, Naresh Goyal, Chairman, Jet Airways, said, “With the introduction of this new transpacific route to San Francisco aboard Jet Airways, we continue our airline's unprecedented expansion throughout North America. I am immensely proud of our team's accomplishments of launching four new long-haul routes in less than a year. My vision is that by 2010, the airline should be rated among the top five airlines in the world. Having changed the way people fly in India, we are now taking to the world our very own brand of service and style that bespeaks the spirit of New India. "

Jet Airways transpacific flights aboard the airline’s brand new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will offer unprecedented levels of luxury, privacy and comfort in the air, including First Class suites with the world's longest airline beds, private closets, dining tables for two, and 23" flat-screens. Première (business) class seats offer what are considered the most comfortable Business Class seats in the sky that convert to 73"-long totally flat beds. Leg-room in Economy is more generous than the norm - and passengers in all three classes have access to the state-of-the-art Panasonic eX2 entertainment system, complete with 200+ movies, games and endless music choices.

"Jet anticipates operating its flights to the US routes via this hub. Goyal said Jet would closely work with European carriers like Air-France-KLM-Alitalia to offer travellers seamless connections between Europe, the US, Canada, Africa and India."

Beijing, Paris, Milan on Jet radar
Geetanjali Shukla / Mumbai April 27, 2008

Jet Airways is all set to spread its wings to Beijing, Milan and Paris within a year. The airline currently flies to London – it is the market leader on this route with a robust share of 33 per cent – and Brussels, which is also its second hub after Mumbai.

Speaking to Business Standard, Jet Airways' Chairman Naresh Goyal also outlined his plans for two of Air India's key markets — the Gulf and the US.

"We are looking to fly to Dubai in June. As per the bilateral discussions held last week, the number of seats allotted to Indian carriers have been hiked to 54,000 a week from 31,000 a week. We have asked for a total of 15,000 seats a week to be allotted to Jet Airways and JetLite."

Jet will be operating flights to Dubai from New Delhi and Mumbai. Taking on Air India's other strategic market, Goyal also announced the date for the launch of the airline's Mumbai-Shanghai-San Francisco flight.

"We are targeting a launch date of June 14 to fly into Shanghai. We have the necessary go-aheads from both the governments. All we are awaiting is the slots to be cleared," said Goyal.

With this flight in place, Jet Airways will become the only airline to fly to the American west coast from India via China. The airline also boasts that at 18 hours, this Boeing 777-300 ER operation will be one of shortest to the US from India.

Speaking about Jet's plans for the Gulf he said, "We will be introducing Jeddah and Riyadh in Saudi Arabian in the next few weeks. We hope to become the first choice carrier for passengers on this route," he added. Presently Jet flies to Kuwait, Bahrain, Muscat, Doha and Abu Dhabi.

Also, in what can be termed as another move to take on the Indian flag carrier joining the Star Alliance, Jet Airways is rapidly tying up with foreign airlines. Jet recently announced a tie-up with Hong Kong-based Cathay Pacific Airways' frequent flyer programme, Asia Miles.

"Similarly, we are in talks with Emirates for our Dubai operations, Etihad for our flights into Abu Dhabi, Qatar Airways for Doha and also with Oman Air," says Goyal.ù
