Jet eyes 2nd European hub

BS Reporter / New Delhi March 14, 2008

Jet Airways is looking at a second European hub for its flights to the US. Paris, Munich and Milan</u> have been identified so far.

Speaking on the sidelines of a conference on aviation in New Delhi, Saroj Datta, executive director, Jet Airways, said, “We are looking at how traffic in these three places shape up before making a final decision on which city we choose as a second hub.”

At the moment, Jet has Brussels (Belgium) as its main hub. The carrier is also planning to set up a hub in Shanghai for which discussions are expected to be held with the Chinese authorities next week.

The advantage, of course, is that flights from India going via Shanghai to the West Coast would save two to three hours of flying time compared with flights via Singapore and Hong Kong.

Datta also pointed out that international business would constitute over 50 per cent of its business in the next two to three years. Currently, international business contributes 37 per cent to the business. He also said that it took 12-18 months to break even on international routes, though it was quicker for West Asia.

Sources in the company said Jet had already broken even on various key routes, including Delhi-Singapore, Delhi-Kuala Lumpur, Delhi-London, among others. However, the West Asian and the US routes were still to pick up volumes.

Datta also pointed out that the industry was making a loss of around Rs 800 per passenger on the domestic routes as a result of high aviation turbine fuel (ATF) prices.

Jet is not the only airline looking at a hub in Europe. Air-India is expected to finalise it European hub, which could be either Vienna or Munich.

New York, Newark e Toronto

perché no VCE? [:p]

sherzo [:308]
[:p][:p][:p][:p][:p][:p]

Ahmedabad e Bangalore da maggio; poi Chennai, Delhi, Mumbai, New York-JFK, Newark, Toronto-Pearson sono già operati

Jet Airways to set up second European hub at Milan

Mumbai, April 3: Jet Airways, the country's leading private airline, would establish its second European hub at Milan Airport, company chairman Naresh Goyal announced here Thursday.

Jet anticipates operating its flights to the US routes via this hub. Goyal said Jet would closely work with European carriers like Air-France-KLM-Alitalia to offer travellers seamless connections between Europe, the US, Canada, Africa and India.

However, the beginning of operations with Milan as a transit point is still being worked out. "We are still chalking out plans, as we are on major expansion," he said.

Last year, Jet had opened a hub in Brussels. Brussels was chosen as the hub because of unavailability of slots at Heathrow for the US operations.

Mumbai, April 3: Jet Airways, India's leading private airline, is currently setting its sights over the European skies. The airline will establish its second European hub at Milan Airport, after Brussels, chairman Naresh Goyal announced here Thursday.

'We are still chalking out plans, as we are on major expansion,' he said.

Asked about diluting the promoters' stake in the company, Goyal said he was not in a hurry to dilute promoters holding to 75 percent as per SEBI guidelines.

Earlier, Goyal planned to sell five percent of his equity in the airlines before the end of March to a private equity player. Goyal holds close to 80 percent in Jet through Tail Winds.

According to SEBI guidelines, his stake needs to be brought down to 75 percent.

Once the dilution of five percent stake takes place, Jet would go ahead with its $400 million rights issue. 'We will bring up the rights issue at the right time,' Goyal said.

Jet is raising $400 million to partly finance its $2 billion aircraft acquisition.

In January, Jet's board authorised the management to raise up to $800 million through qualified institutional placement and other modes, including the $400 million rights share issue.

As part of its expansion plans, Jet will start its daily direct flights from Mumbai to Hong Kong from April 14 and Mumbai to San Francisco from May 5.

According to Goyal, Jet has 33 percent market share on its British sectors. 'Our Premiere class has almost 70 percent foreigners,' he said.

Goyal also hopes to carry a lot of Chinese passengers from Shanghai. 'We are also planning to have Chinese in-flight entertainment and studying various aspects of Chinese culture which can be introduced on our flights,' he told IANS.

Besides this, Jet will also enhance its services to the Gulf, with the introduction of daily direct flights on Mumbai-Muscat and Kochi-Doha sectors from April 18 and April 21 respectively.

On this route, Jet will deploy Boeing 777-800 in two-class configuration.

From April 23, the airline will launch daily direct flights to Abu Dhabi from Mumbai and Delhi. 'The launch of Jet Airways operations to Abu Dhabi is important boost for us, as it is our first foray in the United Arab Emirates,' Goyal said.

Work out non significa scartare.

Jet Airways to set up second hub in Milan by end of 2009
Decision on third hub in Shanghai expected soon
By TBM Staff | Mumbai

India’s largest private carrier, Jet Airways, has decided upon Milan as their second international hub. The hub will be set up by end of 2009. This development was announced by Naresh Goyal, Chairman, Jet Airways, at a press conference in Mumbai this afternoon. The airline had short listed Paris (France), Munich (Germany) and Milan (Italy) for its second international hub. The decision to set up in Milan was finalised after carrying out a ‘thorough study.’ “Considering the air traffic in these three cities (Paris, Munich and Milan), we choose Milan as our second hub. Today, the air traffic to Paris has increased tremendously and we did not want our hub there. Munich was out of question, since Air India has already selected it as their European hub,” stated Goyal.

The airline intends to use its second hub in Milan to build up its international operations by connecting other Indian cities like Hyderabad, Bangalore, Ahmedabad and Kolkata to the United States and Canada, besides adding new destinations like Munich, Paris, Milan, Los Angeles, Vancouver, Tel Aviv and Johannesburg to its network. Goyal, however, refused to divulge the incentives offered by the Milan airport authorities. “We will be creating state-of-the-art facilities for our passengers at the Milan airport,” he added. According to him, the international business will constitute over 50 per cent of the airlines’ business in the next two to three years, compared to the current 37 per cent.

Jet Airways was India’s first carrier to have an international hub in Brussels, Belgium. It has a target of one million passengers to use its Brussels hub annually by 2010. The airline is also contemplating on setting up a hub in Shanghai, China. “We are still discussing with the Chinese authorities and we expect a decision very soon,” stated Goyal. He further added, “Of course, the advantage of a hub in Shanghai is that flights from India to the West Coast of USA will save two to three hours of flying time in comparison to flights via Singapore and Hong Kong.”

Speriamo proprio arrivi JET A, a MXP!!
