Air Malta Will Operate Seven Flights to Rome Today -
Five of which are Relief Extra Flights
A volcanic ash cloud currently extending from Iceland, to the UK, Scandinavia and moving down to central Europe including parts of Russia is causing huge disruptions to flights scheduled to operate in European airspace.
Due to this cloud, parts of European airspace have been shut down affecting airlines that operate through these parts.
On Friday Air Malta has operated 25 flights; from Malta to Athens – KM 742/3, Budapest - KM520/1, Reggio-Rome - KM 612/3, Milan - KM626/7, Catania – Munich – Catania – KM1308/9, Munich - KM306/7, Vienna - KM512/3, Zurich – KM 490/1, Tripoli – KM 696/7, Rome – Reggio Calabria - KM 614. and Palermo - KM 668/9.
Due to the fact that there was no improvement in the situation this morning Air Malta was constrained to cancel all flights yesterday with the exception of KM612/3 to Rome and KM1482 to Catania and KM696/7 to Tripoli.
Yesterday Air Malta operated two extra relief flights to Rome over and above its normal schedule.

Today Air Malta has operated an extra flight to Rome KM 3612/3. The Maltese airline has also confirmed 4 new extra flights to Rome this afternoon and evening (all times local).
Thus Air Malta will be operating the following flights:

KM3612 dep Malta 1730hrs arr Rome 1900hrs Extra Flight
KM3613 dep Rome 2000hrs arr Malta 2130hrs
KM3622 dep Malta 1800hrs arr Rome 1930hrs Extra Flight
KM3623 dep Rome 2200hrs arr Malta 2330hrs
KM3624 dep Malta 1715hrs arr Rome 1845hrs Extra Flight

All other flights have been cancelled including KM436/7 to Marseille.
Air Malta’s flight KM1950 today that will be taking H.H. Pope Benedict XVI back to Rome after his pastoral visit to Malta, is expected to operate normally.
In addition to the above relief flights Air Malta will tomorrow operate a late afternoon flight KM3620 to Rome departing Malta at 1730 and arriving in Rome at 1900 hours. The return flight KM3621 will depart Rome at 2000 hours arriving in Malta at 2130 hours.
Air Malta will be operating more extra relief flights over and above its normal schedule subject to the lifting of airspace restrictions and flight slots confirmed.
