A Lufthansa Boeing 747-800, registration D-ABYT performing flight LH-419 from Washington Dulles,DC (USA) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany) with 364 people on board, was enroute at FL300 basically on top of New York's JFK Airport when the crew reported a cracked windshield and requested FL200. The crew subsequently decided to divert to Boston,MA (USA) for a safe landing on runway 33L about one hour after leaving FL300.

The flight is still on the ground in Boston about 26 hours after landing. A blizzard is currently battering the east coast of the USA causing the cancellation of many flights.

The airline confirmed a cracked windshield. The remainder of the flight was cancelled, the passengers were rebooked onto other flights.
