Bombardier Sells 10 CSeries Jetliners to Sweden's Braathens Aviation

June 1, 2011 — Toronto
Aerospace

Transaction includes options on 10 additional CSeries aircraft
CSeries aircraft’s performance and environmental features position it for operation from downtown airport
Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Braathens Leasing Limited, a member of Braathens Aviation of Sweden, has placed a firm order for five Bombardier CS100 and five CS300 mainline jetliners. Braathens also took options on an additional 10 CSeries aircraft.

Based on list prices for the CS100 and CS300 aircraft, the firm order contract is valued at approximately $665 million US. That could increase to approximately $1.37 billion US if the 10 options are converted to firm orders.

The CSeries aircraft will be operated by Braathens Aviation member Malmö Aviation from its base at the Bromma-Stockholm City Airport, situated just a few kilometres from downtown Stockholm. Malmö Aviation currently operates 12 jet aircraft and intends to renew its fleet and explore new business opportunities with its CSeries aircraft starting in 2014.

“The performance and environmental features of Bombardier’s CSeries aircraft will not only strengthen our position as the leading operator at Bromma-Stockholm City Airport, but will allow us to expand our business throughout the region,” said Geir Stormorken, Chairman, Braathens Aviation.

“Bromma, being a city airport, has very strict noise regulations, as well as a short runway,” said Knut Solberg, Chief Executive Officer, Braathens Aviation. “We have been very focused on noise, emissions, fuel consumption and runway performance in our decision for a new aircraft type. With the CSeries aircraft, we found exactly what we were looking for. The CSeries aircraft promise excellent runway performance, noise levels which are less than half those of any similarly-sized aircraft currently in production, as well as unsurpassed environmental credentials. We think that the CSeries family of aircraft is a ‘game-changer’ in the context of the environment and performance, and we are very excited about introducing the CSeries jetliners to our passengers.”

“With its order for CSeries aircraft, Braathens Aviation continues to illustrate its deep commitment to its customers and to the community in which it operates,” said Gary R. Scott, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft. “Braathens Aviation’s visionary leaders have chosen the CSeries aircraft’s game-changing technologies and 21st century design to help them deliver on their commitments, and we at Bombardier appreciate their confidence.”

Designed for the growing 100- to 149-seat market, the CSeries aircraft combine advanced materials, leading-edge technology and proven methods to meet commercial airline requirements in 2013 and beyond.

The CSeries aircraft family will offer a 15* per cent cash operating cost advantage and a 20* per cent fuel burn advantage; greatly reduced noise and emissions; as well as superior operational flexibility, exceptional airfield performance and a range of 2,950 nm (5,463 km). It will also provide passengers with three-plus-two, widebody-style seating in a single-aisle aircraft.

The CS100 aircraft is scheduled to enter revenue service in 2013, followed by the CS300 aircraft in 2014.

The transaction announced today increases firm orders for the CSeries family of aircraft to 100, including 38 CS100 and 62 CS300 aircraft, and raises the number of CSeries aircraft customers to four. Other customers that have ordered CSeries aircraft include Republic Airways (40 CS300 aircraft), Deutsche Lufthansa AG (30 CS100 aircraft) and Lease Corporation International Group (17 CS300 and three CS100 aircraft). In addition, the CSeries aircraft program includes options for 100 aircraft.

Aerospace
Bombardier Aerospace announced today that the Letter of Intent (LOI) from Korean Air signed on June 21 at the 2011 Paris Air Show to acquire 10CS300 airliners has now been converted into a firm order. The transaction also includes options on 10 CS300 aircraft and purchase rights for an additional 10 CS300 aircraft.
The firm order makes Korean Air, South Korea’s flagship airline, the launch customer for the CSeries aircraft in Asia. The airline currently operates a fleet of 137 passenger and cargo jet aircraft to 115 cities in 39 countries.
“Korean Air’s selection of the CSeries aircraft to meet its route expansion requirements in the Asia-Pacific market, and our growing list of customers in the European and North American markets are testaments to the high value and operational flexibility of the CSeries aircraft program,” said Gary R. Scott, President, Bombardier Commercial Aircraft.
Korean Air’s CS300 aircraft will be powered by Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan PW1521G engines. Designed for the growing 100- to 149-seat market, the CSeries family of aircraft combines advanced materials, leading-edge technology and proven methods to meet commercial airline requirements in 2013 and beyond.
The CSeries aircraft family will offer a 15* per cent cash operating cost advantage and a 20* per cent fuel burn advantage, greatly reduced noise and emissions as well as superior operational flexibility, exceptional airfield performance and a range of 2,950 nm (5,463 km). It will also provide passengers with widebody-style seating in a single-aisle aircraft.
The Korean Air transaction increases firm orders for the CSeries family of airliners to 133 aircraft. Other customers that have firm orders for CSeries aircraft include Republic Airways (40 CS300 aircraft), Deutsche Lufthansa AG (30 CS100 aircraft), Lease Corporation International Group (17 CS300 and three CS100 aircraft), Braathens Aviation (five CS100 and five CS300 aircraft), a well-established, unidentified airline (three CS100 aircraft), an unidentified major network carrier (10 CS100 aircraft) and an unidentified European customer (10 CS100 aircraft). These customers have also taken 119 options and 10 purchase rights on CSeries jetliners.

Ilyushin Finance firma LoI per 7 x CS300 + 3 x CS100 + 20 options/purchase rights

Ancora niente di ufficiale sul sito della Bombardier, ma la notizia si trova su flightglobal.com:

MAKS: Ilyushin Finance plans to take up to 30 CSeries

By David Kaminski-Morrow

Russian lessor Ilyushin Finance has signed a tentative agreement to take up to 30 Bombardier CSeries twinjets, a potential landmark deal for the type.
Ilyushin Finance is to acquire seven CS300s and three CS100s under a pact - so far amounting to a letter of intent - which includes options and purchase rights on another 20 aircraft.
"The aircraft leasing world is changing rapidly," said Ilyushin Finance director general Alexander Rubtsov, speaking during the MAKS Moscow air show.
He said older, less fuel-efficient aircraft were presenting "ongoing challenges" to the country's fleets.
Ilyushin Finance told Flightglobal its agreement marked the first time it had opted for such a large deal from a Western airframer, and that the 110- to 130-seat CSeries would be a candidate to replace mainline types, notably the Tupolev Tu-154.
"We have interest [from airlines]," the company added. "We think it will be really popular in Russian airline companies. They are interested in 130 seats, so it's very easy to sell it - we think it will be really popular.
"If the aircraft is as [Bombardier] says, it will be great and have a great future."
Ilyushin Finance is aiming to build a range of capacity to offer carriers, from the regional sector - the Antonov An-148 and An-158 - up to the United Aircraft MS-21 family. The lessor said the CSeries fits a segment between these types.

MAKS: Ilyushin aims to firm order for up to 30 CSeries this year

By David Kaminski-Morrow

Lessor Ilyushin Finance intends to slot the Bombardier CSeries into the centre of its portfolio, to give it a broad family of aircraft with a degree of commonality.
IFC is intending to firm a letter of intent for up to 30 CSeries aircraft - as early as this year, the Canadian airframer said - and will use the time until then to negotiate with possible Russian customers.
The lessor handed a potential breakthrough deal to Bombardier, with a tentative order for seven CS300s and three CS100s - an entirely new agreement which was originally set to be outlined at Paris in June.
Deliveries of the CS100s would start in mid-2015 and the CS300s the following year. IFC has options and purchase rights on another 20.
IFC general director Alexander Rubtsov told Flightglobal, at the MAKS Moscow air show, that he was confident about taking a risk with the new Pratt & Whitney geared turbofan-powered aircraft.
"One may say we're gamblers by definition, we've been working with Russian aircraft since day one," he said.
Rubtsov pointed out that IFC is building a portfolio of aircraft up to 200 seats, with smaller regional jets, such as the Antonov An-158, up to the Irkut MS-21.
The CSeries, he said, fitted the 110- to 130-seat segment and also had "lots of commonality" with the other types, such as its powerplant and avionics.
"It makes sense to offer a family - even though it's not really a family," said Rubtsov.
IFC is also keen to be involved in after-sales support for the twinjet type, he added.
Bombardier sees room to co-operate with IFC in this area. "We're looking at various partners," said the airframer's commercial aircraft senior vice-president of sales, Chet Fuller. "IFC is potentially one of them."
IFC is the second leasing customer for the CSeries. Fuller said IFC is "the best lessor in Russia", and added: "They're a very sophisticated group, very aware of what they're trying to accomplish.
"Most lessors, while having sufficient technical capability, don't have the depth of capability that IFC has. They're going to be a great partner for CSeries."

Turkey's Atlasjet Signs for up to 15 Bombardier CS300 Airliners

Aerospace

First low-fare carrier is tenth customer to order CSeries aircraft

Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Atlasjet Havacilik A.S. of Istanbul, Turkey has signed a letter of intent (LOI) to acquire 10 CS300 jetliners and take options on a further five CS300 aircraft.

Based on the list price of the CS300 airliner, a firm-order contract would be valued at $776 million US, and could increase to $1.18 billion US if the five options were converted to firm orders.

“There are several reasons why we selected Bombardier’s all-new CS300 aircraft,” said Murat Ersoy, Chairman, Atlasjet. “The CS300 aircraft has the best economics in its class; it is well suited for our unique operations in hot temperature environments; and, based on its performance and economics, it will return the highest profitability in strategic markets. With its offering of widebody comfort in a single-aisle aircraft, it is the right-sized platform for us.”

“We consider airlines operating in Turkey and the Middle East to be prime candidates for CSeries aircraft,” said Guy C. Hachey, President and Chief Operating Officer, Bombardier Aerospace. “Airlines in the region face revenue and performance challenges as their current fleets are composed mainly of jet aircraft larger than the CSeries aircraft. The CSeries aircraft gives airlines a right-sized solution optimized for their environment and operation.”

Founded in 2001, Atlasjet operates 17 aircraft on domestic and international routes with scheduled and charter services. Atlasjet is operated and managed by Ersoy Turistik Servisleri (ETS), a conglomerate of travel companies with tourism offices across Turkey. Atlasjet operates domestic scheduled passenger services and regular charter flights to cities across Europe, Kazakhstan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia. Operating from its main base at Atatürk International Airport, Istanbul, the airline also has hubs at Adnan Menderes Airport, Izmir and Antalya Airport.

“The CSeries aircraft has the range and payload capability that meet our mission requirement,” said Orhan Coskun, Chief Executive Officer, Atlasjet. “The CSeries aircraft has excellent operational flexibility and that’s what we need.”

Bombardier forecasts that Turkey will play a key role in the transformation of the aviation industry in the Middle East and Eastern Europe. Carriers in the region, especially in Turkey and the Middle East, have consistently reported increased annual revenues and capacity growth.

Designed for the growing 100- to 149-seat market, the 100 per cent new CSeries family of aircraft combines advanced materials, leading-edge technology and proven methods to meet commercial airline requirements in 2013 and beyond. Powered by Pratt & Whitney PurePower PW1500G engines, the CSeries aircraft family will offer a 15* per cent cash operating cost advantage and a 20* per cent fuel burn advantage. The CSeries family of aircraft’s clean-sheet design is ensuring that it will achieve greatly reduced noise and emissions, as well as superior operational flexibility, exceptional airfield performance and a range of 2,950 nm (5,463 km)*. The CSeries aircraft will be up to 12,000 lbs (5,443 kg) lighter than other aircraft in the same seat category and will provide passengers with a best-in-class, widebody cabin environment in a single-aisle aircraft.

Bombardier has booked firm orders for 133 CSeries airliners from Republic Airways (40 CS300 aircraft), Deutsche Lufthansa AG (30 CS100 aircraft), Lease Corporation International Group (17 CS300 and three CS100 aircraft), Korean Air (10 CS300 aircraft), Braathens Aviation (five CS100 and five CS300 aircraft), an unidentified major network carrier (10 CS100 aircraft), an unidentified European customer (10 CS100 aircraft) and a well-established, unidentified airline (three CS100 aircraft). The CSeries aircraft program has also booked options for 119 aircraft and purchase rights for 10 aircraft from these customers, as well as an LOI for up to 30 CSeries aircraft from Ilyushin Finance Co.

Possibile ritardo per la CSeries

Secondo la Montreal Gazzette, il 6 dicembre, durante la investor's call, Bombardier potrebbe annunciare un ritardo che fa slittare l'entrata in servizio da fine 2013 al 2014.

CSeries won't meet target: analysts
Bombardier may announce postponement at Dec. 6 investor day, expert predicts

By FRANÇOIS SHALOM, The Gazette November 16, 2011 4:13 AM

They took a month to wend their way to the fore, but comments by Bombardier Aerospace president Guy Hachey last month have convinced a growing number of analysts that Bombardier Inc.'s CSeries will not make its 2013 entry-into-service target.

As The Gazette reported on Oct. 12, Hachey surprised analysts and reporters at a meeting in Las Vegas, saying "we're up against the wall in terms of schedule."

The buffer time the company had built in to develop the all-new aircraft incorporating advanced-composite materials and a new-generation engine by Pratt & Whitney had practically evaporated, Hachey said.

"We used up a lot of the contingency time we built in" the 64-month program. "I don't see a miss (for 2013), but we are under pressure."

In effect, the Montreal aircraft manufacturer must do everything right and on schedule from here on in - with no unforeseen technical issues cropping up in the next two years in the development of an exceedingly complex machine.

The markets, analysts say, have factored in a delay for the CSeries in the wake of delays measured in years for Boeing Co.'s 787 Dreamliner and Airbus SAS' A380 and A350-1000.

Walter Spracklin of RBC Capital Markets is the latest analyst to forecast a possible delay for the CSeries. He said in a report that Bombardier may announce a postponement at a Dec. 6 investor day.

Cameron Doerksen of National Bank Financial said "I don't think a six-or ninemonth delay would be that big a deal because Bombardier didn't give exact (delivery) dates to their customers."

But a debate about the length of a delay "is kind of a meaningless exercise now. It entirely depends on what the issue is," Doerksen added.

Bombardier Aerospace spokesperson John Arnone said from the Dubai air show Tuesday that "we continue to march towards an (entry into service) in late 2013."

"However, we acknowledge that there are challenges as there are with any new aircraft program. Thus far, we've been able to deal with these challenges."

One factor mitigating Bombardier's no-room-for-error straitjacket, said Raymond Jaworowski, is the recent announcement by Brazil's Embraer that it was almost certain not to develop its own plane in that category, but will re-engine its ERJ-170 and ERJ-190 regional jets instead.

"That does give them some breathing space," said Jaworowski, a consultant with Forecast International of Newtown, Conn. A brand new plane "would have been added pressure."

Arnone said the Embraer decision "really clarifies once and for all the competitive landscape. It also confirms that we are the only company building an all-new aircraft for that (100-to 149-seat) segment."

Doubts about the 2013 delivery date began to seep in early this year after a report mentioned a possible threemonth delay.

But in an April teleconference call, Bombardier president Pierre Beaudoin and Hachey noted that while some developmental steps had moved around sequentially, the overall time frame remained unaffected.

Richard Aboulafia, a consultant with Teal Group of Fairfax, Va., and an early skeptic on the CSeries timeline, said in an email that he considers Shenyang Aircraft Corp., the Chinese supplier contracted to provide the centre fuselage for the aircraft, the biggest probable cause for a delay.
