As we informed you in December, the ‘new Germanwings’, a Lufthansa Group airline, will be launched on 1 July this year. Germanwings is an airline with new offers and a modern product and service concept; in future it will operate all the European flights outside of Frankfurt and Munich that up to now have been operated by Lufthansa.
From this summer we want to set new industry standards with innovative offers from Germanwings. So from 1 July, on all flights within Germany as well as to the most important overseas markets, we will also be introducing the new ‘Best’ fare, which will offer you many attractive extras. These include a seat in the first three rows in the cabin, the middle seat in the row kept empty, a reserved hand luggage compartment, double free baggage allowance, priority check-in and à la carte catering and you will continue to earn HON Circle miles. You will also enjoy access to Lufthansa Lounges in Germany as well as to lounges at selected European airports. And should you choose one of the other Germanwings fares, your Senator status will entitle you to the use of the lounges mentioned above. Of course, you will also continue to earn award and status miles, including the 25% Executive Bonus.
Independently from the introduction of this new fare system in the summer, we will be gradually transferring flights from as early as the end of this March, starting in Hamburg. Existing bookings on Lufthansa flights will be transferred to a Germanwings ‘Smart’ fare. Therefore, until the new Germanwings concept is fully implemented, you will have a choice of all the Lufthansa benefits you have been used to, such as free soft drinks on board and a free baggage allowance of one bag, and you will be able to earn award and status miles. When you book your flight you can, if you wish, add lounge access in Germany for a very reasonable price.
