3 NUOVI ORDINI DA UNA COMPAGNIA DEL LAOS:

Phongsavanh Airlines Public Company is planning to buy three jet aircraft from the Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Corporation of Russia.

The two parties signed a memorandum of understanding for the purchase in Vientiane on Wednesday.

“We cannot reveal the purchase cost now because it depends on the accommodations or facilities of the aircraft to be built,” said Phongsavanh Airlines Public Company General Director, Mr Artem Vartanian.

“We are preparing a feasibility study now.”

The company will receive the three aircraft by early 2012. It will take the manufacturer over a year to assemble them, with each having 98 seats.

Currently Phongsavanh Airlines provides flights on a 19-seat aircraft, which travels between Vientiane and the provinces of Xayaboury, Huaphan and Phongsaly.

Service began about a month after the Phongsavanh Group Company took control of the Lao Capricorn Air Company in January.

“We will provide flights to international destinations once we have the new aircraft,” Mr Vartanian said.

It is expected flights will be scheduled to destinations in Thailand, Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Malaysia, Singapore and other countries in the region.

The Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Corporation is a world aircraft producer and has been manufacturing aircraft for over 75 years. Phongsavanh Group plans to buy a further three aircraft from the corporation to add new routes for future trade, tourism and investment purposes.

The group hopes to take advantage of the growth in these sectors in Laos and aims to raise air transport in Laos to an international standard.

Lao Airlines will also buy two ARJ21-700 jet aircraft from the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China Ltd, after signing a purchase agreement in January. The purchase o f jet aircraft is an important step for Lao Airlines and its growth. At present the airline owns only propeller aircraft. It will receive the two new aircraft by the end of 2012.

It agreed to the purchase after experiencing increased demand for charter flights by tourists and government officials. The two airlines placed the orders in light of concerns about the adequacy of domestic and international air transport. The new aircraft will drive the development of the air transport market and tourism.

Lao Airlines is the national flag carrier of Laos, formerly known as Lao Aviation. It has eight aircraft – four MA60, two ATR72-200, and two new TR72-500 bought from France last year. They fly to four international and seven domestic locations.

It offers flights to and from Luang Prabang, Xieng Khuang, Oudomxay, Luang Namtha, Bokeo, Savannakhet and Champassak provinces. International destinations are Cambodia, China, Thailand and Vietnam.

Phongsavanh Group is a multi-sector conglomerate with enterprises in international trading, timber, hospitality, telecommunications, banking, airlines and security products and services, according to the group’s website.

Sukhoi Superjet 100 completes engine water protection test program

June 7, 2010, Moscow - Sukhoi Superjet 100 SN95003 has successfully completed the test program aimed at evaluation of engine protection against water jets from the runway. The tests confirmed that APU and propulsion system sustain normal operation while running over the wet runway within the full range of modes preceding the take off. So, SSJ 100 is able to carry out safe take-off and landing on runways, covered with water.

The tests were conducted in Zhukovsky-based Sukhoi Civil Aircraft Company Flight test center. A special 70m long, pool was constructed on the runway. The pool was filled with water, the depth of the water coverage reached 40 mm.
The aircraft accomplished a total of 27 runs at speed ranging between 10 kt and 150 kt at different engine modes, special attention was paid to low speed modes, take-off mode and maximum thrust reverser. The tests were monitored by Russian Certification Authorities experts.
In order to assess the results the pilots controlled the engines’ performance via standard cockpit indication.

Video and photo shooting was carried out with the help of cameras, put on different distances from the pool, and mini-cameras put on landing gear of the aircraft. It confirmed that the water does not hit the air intake and the auxiliary power unit. After every run the thorough examination of the engines and the aircraft was carried out. No malfunction of auxiliary power unit and propulsion system was registered.

Air data system sensors, air intakes and drain openings in the air frame sustain normal operation while the aircraft is moving through the water veil. The stability & control of the aircraft were evaluated as well. The results of the tests are as follows: up to 150 kt (275 km/h) the aircraft goes steadily along the water covered runway and it is easily handled by an average skills pilot.

Therefore the results of the tests proved that SSJ100 is able to take off and land on water covered runways safely. Design characteristics (location of the engines and, air intakes and drain openings) of SSJ100 do not allow water to hit air intakes of propulsion plant and auxiliary power unit within the full range of speeds including runs with activated thrust reverser.

PowerJet aims to build up to 50 SaM146s next year

Sempre a proposito dei motori SaM146 FlightGlobal riporta il ramp-up pianificato:

PowerJet aims to build up to 50 SaM146s next year

By David Kaminski-Morrow

Engine manufacturer PowerJet is aiming to produce up to 50 SaM146 powerplants next year, although its Russian partner has underlined the need for financial support.
Speaking to ATI in Cologne as the SaM146 received European type certification, Snecma chief executive Philippe Petitcolin said the manufacturer would produce 13 engines this year, comprising a dozen for airframes and one spare.
But next year, he says, the target is for PowerJet - which comprises Snecma and Russia's NPO Saturn - to produce 30-50 powerplants.
"We hope for 50," adds Petitcolin. The SaM146 is designed to power the Sukhoi Superjet 100.
NPO Saturn has also outlined an ambitious production forecast for subsequent years.
Chief executive Ilya Fyodorov tells ATI that the company plans to manufacture 84 engines in 2012, increasing to 120 and then 150 in the following two years.
He says there is a strong market for Tupolev Tu-134 replacement which the Superjet 100 can fill.
Russian certification of the SaM146 is being carried out in parallel to the newly-completed certification by the European Aviation Safety Agency.
No additional tests are needed for Russian approval, says SaM146 programme director Yuri Basyuk, but the results of tests already performed will be checked to ensure the engine meets stricter Russian criteria in specific areas, such as icing response. Basyuk believes, however, that the certification is essentially "a formality".
