Scelta del posto, personale interamente a sua disposizione, servizi igienici sempre liberi e disponibili. E tutto questo presumibilmente (stando alle regole base del revenue management) a un costo decisamente competitivo. È quanto è accaduto a Skirmantas Strimaitis, ovvero l’unico passeggero del volo Ryanair che lo scorso 16 marzo è decollato da Vilnius alla volta di Orio al Serio.
Il passeggero in questione, infatti, era l’unico ad aver acquistato il biglietto. E, come racconta repubblica.it, si è trovato a sedere da solo su un B737-800 da 188 posti. Definendolo “il miglior volo di sempre”. Un’esperienza da aereo privato ma al prezzo di un low cost.
Il motivo del load factor decisamente bizzarro è presto detto: un’agenzia di viaggi lituana aveva prenotato un intero volo da Orio a Vilnius; ma dal momento che l'aeromobile doveva percorrere anche la rotta inversa, aveva messo in vendita i biglietti anche per il collegamento che dalla Lituana portava in Italia. E Skiramantas è stato l’unico ad acquistare un biglietto.

Dalle foto che ho visto non sembra Ryanair.
L’aereo è di un vettore charter lituano che effettuava l’ultima rotazione di una catena charter per sciatori. È poi regolarmente ripartito per VNO pieno a tappo. Strano che l’ultima rotazione a scendere non l’abbiano gestita come ferry.
Ryanair CEO Michael O’Leary has agreed to a 50% pay cut. According to the airline’s annual report, O’Leary’s new five-year contract includes a €500,000 salary and a bonus capped to the same amount. Last year, Ryanair paid the executive €3.73 million, which included a basic pay of €1.058 million, a €758,000 bonus and share-based payments of €1.547 million. According to the report, O’Leary’s remuneration is significantly lower than that of many other European airline CEOs.

EU orders Ryanair to return €8.5 million to France
The European Commission ordered the Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair to return to France €8.5 million of illegal aid paid under contracts for Montpellier airport.
A year-long investigation found out that the Association for the Promotion of Touristic and Economic Flows (APFTE) had given €8.5 million to the airline between 2010 and 2017 in order in exchange for promoting Montpellier and the surrounding area as a touristic destination on the airline's website.
But the Commission has found that this marketing service was, in fact, an incentive to maintain Ryanair’s operations at Montpellier airport (MPL). Furthermore, as APFTE is an independent association, not related to the airport operator and financed almost entirely by regional and local public entities, it concluded that these contracts were financed with state resources.
“The European Commission has come to the conclusion that the marketing services contracts concluded between the
Association for the Promotion of Tourism and Economic Flows (APFTE) and Ryanair at Montpellier Airport are illegal under the EU rules on State aid,” said the authority. Ryanair must now reimburse the illegal State aid of €8.5 million to France.
Similar discrepancies were already noted in other airports in France, Germany, and Italy. The Commission said it was currently examining further agreements among airlines and the German airport of Frankfurt-Hahn, as well as the Spanish airports of Reus and Gerona.

Ryanair pilots based in the UK have voted in favour of strike action in a row over pay and conditions, with two walk-outs announced for August and September.
According to the British Airline Pilots Association (BALPA), the strike ballot had a 72 per cent turnout, with 80 per cent agreeing to take industrial action.
Pilots are now planning to strike from 0001 on 22 August until 2359 on 23 August, and from 0001 on 2 September until 2359 on 4 September.
BALPA said Ryanair’s refusal to work with unions until 2018 led to “a management that apparently doesn’t understand how to work with unions, and secondly a company that doesn’t have a number of standard agreements that any union would reasonably expect in any workplace”.
Pilots have listed a number of issues relating to the dispute, including pensions, loss of license insurance, maternity benefits, allowances and a “fair, transparent and consistent pay structure”.
BALPA general secretary Brian Strutton commented: “We have had no formal offer from Ryanair and it is imperative that we resolve this dispute urgently to avoid strike action. No pilot wants to spoil the public’s travel plans, but at the moment it seems we have no choice.”
The news comes after Ryanair announced it would have to cut up to 900 jobs by summer 2020 following a drop in profits and a delay in deliveries of the troubled Boeing 737 Max aircraft.
Responding to the strike threat, Ryanair claimed BALPA had the support of less than 30 per cent of its UK pilots, as it believes less than half are actually members of the union. The carrier also claimed its UK senior captains earn up to £180,000 a year.
In a statement, the airline said: “BALPA have no mandate to disrupt our customers’ holidays and flights, particularly at a time when UK pilots are facing job losses due to the Boeing Max delivery delays and the threat of a no-deal Brexit on 31 October.”
Ryanair said it has asked BALPA back to the negotiating table “to minimise job losses instead of taking ill-judged and ill-timed industrial action”.
The Ryanair strikes come as BALPA continues negotiations with British Airways to avoid a pilot walk-out.

Sarà Eddie Wilson il nuovo chief executive officer di Ryanair. Il manager rileverà la carica di Michael O’Leary, che da questo mese passa alla guida di tutto il gruppo, coordinando quindi le attività di Ryanair, il vettore principale, insieme a Buzz, Laudamotion e Malta Air.
La compagnia irlandese ha quindi alla fine deciso di scegliere una soluzione interna per il passaggio di consegne con lo storico ceo O’Leary: una decisione maturata anche in virtù del momento delicato che il vettore sta vivendo. L’autunno alle porte vedrà infatti Wilson alle prese con una serie di sfide determinanti per il futuro: tra queste la Brexit, le cui conseguenze al momento sono tutte ancore da definire e preoccupano non poco l’azienda. Inoltre ci sarà da definire il programma di tagli di basi e network determinato dal mancato arrivo dei nuovi aerei, considerato che la questione del B737 Max non si è ancora sbloccata e per la compagnia questo significa 30 nuovi aerei in meno nella flotta. Infine il problema degli scioperi, che da agosto stanno colpendo l’operatività.

Secondo Ryanair, lo sciopero dei piloti britannici non ha comportato alcuna cancellazione del volo.
Sono andato a Glasgow e di Glasgow a Dublino il 3 di questo mese, i miei voli non sono stati cancellati o ritardati.
I piloti in sciopero sono stati sostituiti da altri piloti chiamati ad operare da altre basi.
A Bologna ci sono diversi voli ryanair con passeggeri già in aereo o con imbarco terminato rimandati in aerostazione per "problemi tecnici". Qualcuno ha notizie?
I piloti delle altre basi erano liberi? non avevano voli da operare? Chi li sostituisce a sua volta?
Probabilmente erano standby. In Italia non si può assolutamente fare questa cosa, se il personale è in sciopero cancelli i voli punto.
