Ash leads to cancellation of Scottish flights

Scottish regional carrier Loganair has become one of the first outside Iceland to be affected by the latest episode of volcanic ash problems, announcing the cancellation of 38 flights on 24 May.
The carrier, which operates as a franchise of larger UK regional airline Flybe, operates a network of services from Edinburgh and Glasgow to destinations in northern Scotland and the Northern and Western Isles.
The cancellations affect all Loganair services between 06:00 and 13:00 on 24 May, with the exception of its network of inter-island flights in the Orkney Isles.
Passengers booked on flights after 13:00 on 24 May should consult its website for further updates, it said.
With major disruption looming, the carrier has added several additional flights for the evening of 23 May to help passengers who want to travel ahead of the stoppage.
Loganair said that its latest information was that the ash cloud would persist over Scotland throughout the day, clearing progressively on the night of 24-25 May.
