Japan Airlines expands cooperation with Cathay Pacific on flights beyond Hong Kong

Japan Airlines (JAL) and Cathay Pacific Airways (Cathay Pacific), both members of the quality airline alliance oneworld®, have come to an additional agreement to codeshare on flights operated by the latter via Hong Kong, Bangkok and Singapore to destinations in Asia, Africa, Australia and Europe. This deeper cooperation follows a recent announcement by the two Asian carriers in oneworld that they will codeshare on all flights operated by both carriers on every route between Japan and Hong Kong and 13 selected domestic routes operated by JAL starting from October 31, 2010.

From November 1, 2010, JAL will begin to codeshare on flights operated by Cathay Pacific between Hong Kong and Mumbai, Chennai, New Delhi, Penang, Surabaya and Ho Chi Minh City in Asia, as well as Johannesburg, Brisbane, Rome and Milan. From South East Asia, Cathay Pacific also operates on the routes Bangkok=Mumbai, Bangkok=New Delhi and Singapore=Colombo which JAL will begin placing its "JL" flight indicator on the same day. This new agreement expands JAL's network further by 11 destinations and 13 routes.

Hong Kong is not only a robust business center of Asia that is in close proximity to Japan, it also has an excellent aviation hub with sophisticated infrastructure and an extensive network that provides for smooth transfers and flight connections. With the codeshare cooperation on flights between Hong Kong and Japan, as well as to key Asian gateways via Hong Kong, JAL and Cathay Pacific will fortify the oneworld network in this region of growth and bring to oneworld customers greater benefits and convenience.

Reservations and ticket purchase begin 29 October 2010 for travel starting from November 1, 2010.

qual'è l'aereo con più capacità che hai in flotta cathay? pensate aumenteranno la capacità dopo questo c/s?
 
Mi sembra una scelta un pò strana per servire il mercato italiano, in particolare una rotta non particolarmente felice in termini di durata.
Alla fine non solo è lunga in miglia circa il 25% più della diretta MXP-NRT, ma soprattutto è più lunga di una qualsiasi rotta con scalo in Europa (tipo CDG, FRA) di un buon 20%!
Se proprio dovevamo fare un accordo OW, non gli conveniva passare da LHR??
Io personalmente non la considero per i miei spostamenti. Troppe miglia inutili!
 
Può essere interessante per i Giapponesi per evitare uno scalo interno inutile.
Volano direttamente a HKG con JAL

e da HKG prendono il diretto per MXP o FCO.
Si evitano il doppio scalo con un eccesso di miglia ridotto per chi parte dal sud del Giappone.
E poi volano CX :p
 
Cmq meglio alimentare voli Cathay per l'Italia che fare transitare via Londra... non so quanto tempo si risparmi via LHR però sinceramente è già pieno di compagnie extra europee che sfruttano il mercato italiano facendo feeder via scali europei.. preferisco vettori che puntino finalmente sul nostro paese, anche via code share!
 
Per l'Italia e' sicuramente meglio transitare in hub lontani che in Europa, almeno si migliora la connettivita' per le destinazioni intercontinentali piu' importanti.

Pero' chi firma i bilaterali tiene conto anche di altre motivazioni che non siano la sola connettivita' delle varie aree del territorio nazionali.... e su questo sicuramente ci sono punti di vista diversi. Il mio e' che si firmi per quel daily a CX e anche per tutti gli eventuali altri, mai abbastanza, che bussano. Soprattutto se da terre lontane.

Quindi non EK, dato che tutto sommato hanno un hub vicino con cui non ci servono piu' frequenze e ci saccheggia un po' come fanno gli hub europei.
