Aegean era inizialmente interessata nel comperare Olympic. Ora pare che MIG (proprietario di Olympic) stia discutendo la cosa con Aegean. A quel punto una grande Olympic dentro lo Sky Team?

OLYMPIC AIR, AEGEAN AIRLINES IN TALKS FOR A POSSIBILE MERGER?

Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines confirmed a ‘Kerdos’ financial daily report that they are in talks on a future cooperation.

In reality, this could only mean the prospect of a possible merger.

Olympic Air is a strong brand name and Aegean a successful business model, based on the declining state-run airlines. Now that Olympic Air is under MIG’s umbrella, the rules of the game have changed, given that Greece is a small market for two players.

MIG’s official announcement reads as follows:

“Commenting on an article published today on the Greek press, we would like to inform the following:

Discussions between the main shareholders of OLYMPIC AIR and AEGEAN AIRLINES have taken place concerning the potential of a future cooperation.

However, at this time there is nothing specific to be announced.”
 
vorrebbe dire avere una quota del mercato interno in Grecia del 95%.
Fossi la Grecia visto anche le difficoltà in cui versa farei fare l'operazione ma abbasserei drasticamente le tariffe aeroportuali ai vettori in modo che anche sul nazionale possano operare + compagnie (anche non greche)

Dunque: Star Alliance o SkyTeam??
 
Raggiunto l'accordo per la fusione tra Aegean Airlines e Olympic Air

I principali azionisti di Aegean Airlines e Olympic Air hanno raggiunto un accordo riguardo la fusione delle due compagnie aeree in una nuova compagnia aerea che verrebbe quotata nella borsa di Atene. Olympic Handling e Olympic Engineering diventerebbero due controllate al 100% dalla nuova società.
La nuova compagnia aerea che nascerà dalla fusione avrà nome e logo di Olympic Air dopo un periodo di transizione durante il quale il marchio Aegean continuerà ad esistere. L'accordo tra le due società è soggetto ad approvazione da parte delle autorità antitrust europee. Secondo i termini dell'accordo, il principale azinista di Aegean (Vassilakis Group) e l'unico azionista di Olympic Air (Marfin Investment Group) avranno quote identiche nella nuova compagnia, mentre i gli altri azionisti manterranno una quota proporzionale nella nuova società. L'obiettivo della fusione è la creazione di una grande compagnia aerea greca che possa allargare la propria presenza nel mercato europeo e riesca ad offrire connessioni aeree verso le isole greche.

Dalle voci che ho sentito non é chiaro al momento se la nuova Olympic entrerà in Star Alliance o Sky Team o forse One World (?).

A livello geografico Star Alliance ha IST e Sky Team ha FCO quindi forse One World é la più conveniente. Ma ovviamente nel trasporto aereo il livello geografico è relativo.
 
OA dopo la sua rinascita ha dovuto ridurre destinazioni e a/m per via di regole dettte dalla UE (in soldoni non poteva avere le stesse dimensioni della vecchia Olympic Airlines). Questa fusione invece sarebbe ammessa?
 
Olympic-Aegean merger runs into competition hurdle

Greek carrier Olympic Air's proposed merger with Aegean Airlines has run into problems with the European Commission, which has expressed doubts that the tie-up meets competition regulations.

Initial investigations into the proposal point to "serious competition concerns", says the Commission, particularly on the domestic market but also on several international routes.

It has chosen to open a 90-day in-depth inquiry into the agreement in order to assess the effects of the partnership.

"The Commission must make sure that consumers and businesses will continue to have a competitive choice of airline services in Greece," says European competition vice-president Joaquin Almunia, "in particular at a time of difficult economic circumstances."

Olympic Air and Aegean Airlines notified the Commission formally of their merger plan on 24 June.

While the competition situation on Greek routes is under scrutiny, the Commission says it also has "serious doubts" that the tie-up meets requirements regarding provision of public service obligation routes and ground-handling at Greek airports.

With regard to the PSO routes the merger would "bring together the two strongest and most credible bidders", it states. The inquiry is set to conclude by 7 December by which time the Commission will decide whether the merger poses a threat to competition.
