Statement Regarding Issued Reports on 04AUG12
by JL
On 04AUG12, Airline Route issued a report regarding American Airlines cancels Chicago – Helsinki / Rome seasonal operation in Summer 2013, which drew criticisms from few loyal frequent fliers with the airline as well as few working in the industry.
Based on GDS listings as well as OAG Schedules iNet, schedules for these two routes are not shown. This includes codeshare partner British Airways, Finnair and IBERIA. Since the report was issued, some has informed Airline Route that these routes will be loaded in the GDS at a later date, while some criticize this site has quickly jumped to conclusion without “actual source”.
This site welcomes all kinds of criticisms and corrections. However, if one has the past record of citing sources that later proved to be false, or his/her opinion proved to be not entirely correct, and did not correct theirs, in all fairness, they are not fully eligible to criticize this site due to following reason.
Airline Route strives on reporting facts based on airline reservation system (also known as Global Distribution System; GDS). When there are changes on reported items, including those later proved to be incorrect, this site will issue a separate post to correct and update it. This sets apart this site from other aviation message boards/forums, as well as certain blogs, because majority of the time, when individual opinions/cited sources/analysis proved to be incorrect or found with flaws, they rarely or don’t get corrected or updated.
There are times that this site does report information that are falsehood or incorrect, which will damage the credibility of this site to certain degree. Notable examples in 2012 includes Singapore Airlines cancelling Riyadh and GOL cancels Punta Cana, which both proved to be false due to “making conclusions too quickly”. But when mistakes happen this site issues corrected post to replace and/or delete previous post. While this particular American Airlines’ post may be proved to be wrong within few days or months, this site is treating them as “cancelled”, until they are being loaded in the system and start taking reservations, just like any other posts reported on the site in the past 4-5 years (when reservations for certain route is closed or not appearing in the system).
Is there a need to issue this notice as a separate post? Definitely. There are readers receiving information from Airline Route via email or RSS, and they may miss the additional information appeared on the original post.
Thanks to everyone for understanding.
