Qatar Airways ha affrontato l’emergenza provocata dal blocco aereo nel centro-nord Europa aumentando le frequenze dei voli su Roma e mettendo a disposizione dei passeggeri in arrivo e partenza da altre destinazioni mezzi alternativi di trasporto. In particolare la compagnia ha fatto affluire su Fiumicino i viaggiatori in partenza da Doha per Milano, Zurigo, Monaco e Francoforte ed ha provveduto al trasporto alle rispettive destinazioni con un servizio gratuito di pullman. Per le partenze da Roma, la compagnia ha aumentato le frequenze per agevolare il traffico dei passeggeri provenienti con pullman da Milano, Svizzera e Germania e diretti, dopo il transito in Qatar, verso le altre destinazioni del network in Asia ed Estremo Oriente. Con questi interventi Qatar Airways ha considerevolmente attenuato per la propria clientela i gravi disagi provocati dal caos del traffico aereo europeo.

Veramente un ottimo servizio quello di QR con i bus gratuiti per portare i pax da e per FCO mentre molte altre blasonate compagnie li hanno lasciati abbandonati all' aeroporto senza nessun aiuto per raggiungere la destinazione finale. Un applauso a Qatar.
 
Credo proprio che nelle attuali circostanze non si facciano molti problemi nell'operare voli notturni o diurni...!

Ok ma questi voli dalla west cost saranno partiti molte ore fa quando ancora non si sapeva se e quando LHR averebbe riaperto, quindi sono partiti con destinazione finale ignota, pronti a dirottare verso il primo aeroporto europeo disponibile...
 
su matrix (canale 5) adesso ne stanno parlando...(magari ci si fa due risate su qualche intervento non tecnico che spacciano per tecnico)

RYANAIR INTRODUCES EXTRA CANARY ISLAND FLIGHTS TO ALLOW PASSENGERS RETURN TO MAINLAND EUROPE




Ryanair, today 20th Apr, announced that it will operate additional flights on Wed (21st) and Thur (22nd) from Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Tenerife to Madrid to allow all passengers who were disrupted on the Islands by the recent volcanic ash emissions to get to mainland Europe to allow them to make their return journeys via road, rail or ferry (onward travel from Madrid will be at each passenger’s own expense).

Ryanair passengers who have been disrupted by cancelled flights to/from the Canary Islands now have the option of transferring from their already disrupted flights to these extra Madrid flights free of charge using Manage My Booking: https://www.bookryanair.com/SkySales/FRManageBooking.aspx?culture=en-gb&lc=en-gb .

A limited number of seats will be available to passengers who opted for a refund from Ryanair, but still find themselves disrupted on the Canary Islands, for a special one way fare €100 (inc taxes and charges) on www.ryanair.com .

“Any disrupted Ryanair passenger on the Canary Islands now has the choice to fly to Madrid so that they may continue their return journeys by road, rail or ferry. Ryanair passengers who have suffered disruptions due to the recent volcanic ash airspace closures can now transfer to these extra flights on Wednesday and Thursday free of charge, subject to availability. A limited number of seats will also be available for just €100 for all other disrupted passengers who need to get from the Canary Islands to the Spanish mainland.

Ryanair will continue to announce extra flights and revised plans to clear the backlog of passengers as soon as weather conditions and airspace reopening allow.”

Airports reopen as airspace restrictions relaxed

The first flights from Asia, Africa and America were heading towards Britain tonight after air regulators announced a relaxation of airspace restrictions caused by the volcanic ash cloud which had closed the skies over Britain since last Thursday.

Twenty eight BA aircraft were headed for London airports and while the first were turned away by air traffic controllers, a stream of long-haul flights were expected to land early tomorrow after authorities accepted new European guidelines dramatically reducing the size of the no-fly zone.

The breakthrough, which airlines hoped would begin to see the 150,000 British air passengers stranded around the world flying home, came after a meeting tonight between the airlines, regulators and Lord Adonis, the Transport Secretary.

The Civil Aviation Authority, which sets rules governing the use of UK airspace, said it had been convinced by a system already enforced in many European countries after assurances from engine and aircraft manufacturers that safety would not be compromised if flights were allowed to pass through areas with some ash pollution.

Our way forward is based on international data and evidence from previous volcanic ash incidents, new data collected from test flights and additional analysis from manufacturers over the past few days,” said Dame Deirdre Hutton, the CAA chairwoman. “It is a conservative model allowing a significant buffer on top of the level the experts feel may pose a risk.”

Airlines were delighted at the prospect of being able to bring stranded passengers home at last – and also to plug losses of more than $1billion caused by the crisis.

“On behalf of the tens of thousands of customers stranded around the globe, we are delighted the authorities have paid heed to the arguments we and the industry have put forward,” said Willie Walsh, the BA chief executive.

“We will do all we can to bring in as many of the 28 longhaul aircraft as possible we had originally been due to land at Heathrow or Gatwick after 1900 on Tuesday.”

He added: “We are now going to start the difficult task of getting our stranded customers home. This is an airlift which has been unprecedented.”

BA said it would try to land some long-haul flights at Heathrow and Gatwick between 0500 and 1200 tomorrow. The airline advised passengers to expect cancellations, particularly of short-haul flights, until at least this afternoon.

Tonight a Downing Street spokesman said: “The Prime Minister welcomes the decision by the Civil Aviation Authority to allow UK airspace to be used from following rigorous analysis and testing of the flying conditions.

“This solution has been reached as a result of the close working between the Government, the CAA, airlines and the manufacturers, and will allow the thousands of UK citizens stranded abroad to return home to their families.

“The Government will continue to work with all of the relevant agencies to ensure that people can return home to the UK quickly and safely.”

The National Air Traffic Service said it was still waiting for the latest Met Office data to assess if and when flights would be able to resume.

British airports and airlines had watched European aircraft fly high above Britain throughout the day, after national regulators relaxed a blanket ban in Germany, France, Holland and other countries.

The first BA flight to approach, a flight from Bahrain, was diverted to Brussels. Flights from Beijing, Bangkok, San Francisco, Mexico, Mauritius and other destinations were expected to be among the first to make it back to Britain.

The plight of thousands of passengers on board only heightened an argument raging between the airlines and aviation authorities over the strict no-fly zone enforced over most of the country.

Counterparts in Europe were able to fly hundreds of flights to and from long-haul destinations where more than five million people remain stranded. Germany, the Netherlands and France were among countries to exempt flights from a strict embargo.

British airlines and airports lobbied hard to get a change of policy here and tonight the Transport Secretary met them along with the aviation safety regulator to see if a compromise could be struck.

Industry insiders had feared that the regulator would prove unwilling to bend the rules to get passengers home. “The sticking point is while Nats and the industry believe that we should be moving towards a European approach, the CAA are sticking to their current position which is that if there is any risk, that part of UK airspace remains closed,” said one.

“We have got a situation where the economy is hemorrhaging cash, the industry is on its knees, thousands of people are stuck abroad and none of that is going to change unless the CAA shifts its policy and gets into line with the rest of Europe.”

Air traffic controllers in Europe began today to use satellite tracking of the ash cloud so that aircraft could avoid the worst of the pollution. In some countries flights were authorised despite ash being detected in the atmosphere. In Britain, by contrast, all flights are grounded if computer modeling generated by the Met Office predicts that ash would be present.

Every country in Europe controls its own airspace. EU transport ministers agreed yesterday to reduce dramatically the size of the no-fly zone caused by the Eyjafjallajökull volcano and introduce distinct zones to show three levels of risk. But it is up to individual countries whether or not to introduce the proposals.

Nats allowed some Scottish airspace to open from 7am today. The skies above Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Inverness airports remained clear tonight. Glasgow, Newcastle and Teesside were expected to become clear tomorrow.
