BANGKOK: An airport official says a domestic airliner has crashed into the air traffic control tower after landing on the popular Thai resort island of Samui.

The official said there were at least 70 people aboard when the plane skidded off the runway and hit the tower. He spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the press.

A Bangkok Airways Aerospatiale ATR-72-500, flight PG-266 from Krabi to Koh Samui (Thailand), skidded off the runway at Koh Samui and collided with an old unused control tower. 10 minor injuries are being reported, the airplane is said to have received substantial damage to the nose section.

The airline believes, heavy rain at the time of the landing contributed to the accident.

Number of injuries and fatalities are not yet revealed.
A Bangkok Airway aircraft skidded of runway at Samui Airport and crashed into an aviation control tower on Tuesday.

The accident took place at about 2.30pm and as of 3pm, there was still unclear on the number of injuries and fatalities.

Rescue teams and workers rushed to the scene to evacuate the passengers of the ill-fated flight.

Initial report said that the 75-seat aircraft from Krabi province was landing at the Samui airport when it slid of the runway reportedly because of the poor weather.

The Nation's reporter who was at the scene said the aircraft was not caught on fire when the crash happened.

Bangkok, 4 ago. - (Adnkronos/Xin) - Un aereo della Bangkok Airways e' uscito fuori pista in fase di atterraggio sull'isola thailandese di Samui, andandosi a schiantare contro la torre di controllo e prendendo fuoco. Ci sarebbero dei feriti. Lo ha riferito una portavoce della compagnia aerea, Nanwipa Gayjanun, secondo cui l'aereo era decollato dalla localita' di Krabi. A provocare l'incidente sarebbe stata la forte pioggia.

BANGKOK (AP) — A domestic airliner skidded off a runway and crashed into the air traffic control tower after landing Tuesday on the popular resort island of Samui, an airport official said.
There were no immediate reports of casualties among the 70 people aboard the Bangkok Airways flight.
"The plane was damaged," said the official by telephone from Samui, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to talk to the press. "The weather was bad, and it was raining when the plane skidded off."
Thai television Channel 7 said at least half a dozen people remained on the plane. The others were evacuated, and there were no reports of casualties, the channel said.
Bangkok Airways could not be immediately reached.

Several passengers have been injured after a Bangkok Airways flight skidded off the runway on a popular Thai tourist island, reports said.
One report said the domestic airliner with about 70 people on board hit the airport control tower on Koh Samui.
A company official told AFP that all passengers were evacuated, but said an unspecified number were wounded.
The plane was arriving from the western Thai town of Krabi, which is also a popular tourist destination.

c'è anche un precedente molto simile : stessa compagnia e stesso aeroporto. Stesse condizioni meteo. immagino che le pioggie in questo periodo da quelle parti siano piuttosto violente

Non sono così esperto da capire di che aereo si tratta guardando dei rottami.

E' lo stesso dubbio che avevamo. Infatti la livrea è totalmente diversa (ma poteva anche essere che avevano un aereo con una livrea diversa) e non sembrava un ATR.
Anche se le notizie che arrivano sono frammentarie. aspettiamo ancora qualche minuto e forse ce ne saranno di + certe.
