La nuova strategia di Air Berlin è ancora piu' confusa, dicono di voler puntare sui voli da e per gli hub di DUS e TXL ma continuano anche coi voli cross country:

EY "pompa" 300 M€ in AB rilevando da quest'ultima ad un prezzo spropositato le quote di Niki. Pensando alle rogne italiche, suppongo potrebbe fare lo stesso acquistando da AZ il 49.9% di CT.

airberlin marks milestone to refocus its business with sale of NIKI
Stefan Pichler, CEO of airberlin: “We are delivering a decisive step towards our new strategy. This transaction simplifies our business, reduces our exposure to seasonal destinations and improves our financial position. Step by step, we are transforming airberlin into a network carrier focused on domestic and European traffic to feed our two long-haul hubs in Berlin and Dusseldorf.”
As part of the transaction, airberlin is building and adjusting its existing European city network to concentrate on year-round business travel in the German market, Italy, the Nordics and Eastern Europe. airberlin will from the start of the summer 2017 flight schedule, and prior to the closing of the sale of NIKI, transfer slots for certain touristic destinations in Southern Europe (excluding Italy but including the Canary Islands and Madeira), North Africa and Turkey to NIKI. The transaction also includes the discontinuation of airberlin’s wet-lease agreement for 14 TUIfly aircraft.
The long-haul business including the eight destinations airberlin currently serves in the US, as well as the Caribbean destinations and Abu Dhabi – the home base of airberlin’s partner Etihad Airways – remain a vital part of airberlin’s route network.
The current schedule remains valid and available for booking. airberlin will inform its customers in due course should the scheduled flights be operated by NIKI.
Mr Pichler added: “We are on track to adjust our capacity and simplify our fleet. Our new flight schedule will rest on the strength of our existing network and build on our current plan. We will invest further in the development of airberlin’s business travel offering, in the connectivity of our network and in the expansion of our profitable long-haul programme, particularly to US destinations.”

La UE deve esaminare la transazione e ha detto che se l'acquisto di Niki è fatto a valore piu' alto di quello di mercato bloccherà tutto.
Considerato che è un'operazione di sistema concordata con il governo tedesco e che ha l'assenso di LH, che gli scopi dell'operazione sono salvare AB e impedire un'ulteriore crescita di FR in Germania e in Europa (cosa quest'ultima gradita in pratica a tutti i governi UE alle prese con i loro campioncini nazionali) e che parliamo della stessa antitrust che ha sentenziato che l'investimento di Poste in AZ non è aiuto di stato, non mi stupirei se il 49% di Niki venisse valorizzato a 300 M€.
Cesare non è confusa, è invece chiarissima la linea che stanno prendendo e cioè un bel spezzatino.
In un paese multicentrico quale la Germania secondo me questi voli possono avere un loro senso. Esistono diverse rotte interne con una connotazione business non irrisoria, rispetto alle quali il treno non è (ancora) competitivo in termini di percorrenza e sulle quali allo stesso tempo nessuno si sognerebbe di volare con uno scalo intermedio. Se poi siano effettivamente redditizie per AB e/o la concorrenza, non lo so.
Le compagnie mediorientali stanno tutte quante aggiustando i loro piani di crescita per il prossimo anno, la prima volta dopo 12 anni, a causa di eccesso di capacitá presente. In media, nel primo quarto del 2017 la crescita delle ME3 si attesterá sul 4,1%, una netta riduzione rispetto a numeri precedenti.
Per essere precisi:
- Etihad riduce da 6.1% ad 1.5%
- Emirates passa da 11,6% a 3,2%
- Qatar invece limita la crescita ad 7,4% rispetto al 20,5%
Questo, come riporta Bloomberg, concederá un pó di respiro alle compagnie europee, le quali peró dovranno reagire alla probabile crescita del prezzo del barile che porterá una riduzione dei guadagni intorno al 25%.

Gli esuberi di Etihad secondo me sono in parte figli dei cattivi investimenti internazionali che ha fatto la compagnia, fino ad oggi infatti gli acquisti delle quote di Air Berlin e Alitalia hanno prodotto solo continue perdite da ripianare da parte degli arabi, probabilmente se avessero scelto una strategia di espansione interna own metal non avrebbero accumulato tutte queste perdite e quindi meno necessità di ridurre i costi con gli esuberi.
