he carrier now flies to over 39 destinations from the Nikola Tesla Airport offering passenger and freight transport services, said Tanjug.

Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vučić congratulated the Air Serbia workforce in his own name and on behalf of the Serbian government at the celebration in the Belgrade City Hall.

“You represent Serbia in the best possible way and in just a year you managed to turn a near bankrupt company into a firm that we take pride in,” Vučić said.

In August 2013, Etihad Airways and the Serbian government signed a strategic partnership agreement on the formation of a new national airline as the successor of the public enterprise Jat Airways.

Vučić said that he also sees the progress that Air Serbia made in the fact that Belgrade Airport is today two-three times more expensive than it was just a year ago, and that world companies are competing to win a concession for it.

Air Serbia CEO Dane Kondic said that Serbia's national air carrier is on the right track to become a profitable company by the end of the year.

“The business results for the third quarter are truly impressive. In August, we had record results so far,” Kondić said.

This is a special day as it also marks 87 years since the foundation of the Jat airline, he said.

Kondić noted that Air Serbia now flies to 39 destinations in 29 countries, and that there are 20 additional destinations in the Middle East, Asia and Australia that are realized with partners.

With the latest delivery of Airbus A319 in September, the first phase of the fleet upgrade was completed, and the provision of airplanes will be continued in 2018 when the delivery of the new Airbus generation, A320neo, is set to begin, Kondic said.

Siniša Mali, the chairman of the Air Serbia supervisory board and Belgrade mayor, said that in just a year the company turned into one of the largest in Europe.

“We will achieve the objective that the Serbian government set for us,” Mali said, adding that this is an example of the most successful consolidation in the history of the European air industry.

The first Air Serbia plane set off for Abu Dhabi on October 26, marking the official beginning of the company's work.

Air Serbia celebrates record-breaking third quarter results with double-digit passenger and cargo growth

Performance compared to Q3, 2013

  • On track for profitability by end 2014
  • Total revenues increase by 54 per cent, from EUR 37 million to EUR 57 million
  • Total passenger numbers grew by 74 per cent, from 419,000 to 730,000
  • 239,000 passenger carried in August, a 71 per cent increase over August 2013
  • Available Seat Kilometres of 967 million
  • Cargo achieves 64 per cent growth having carried, a total of 669 tonnes
  • Aviolet charter operation carries 90,000 passengers

Air Serbia, the national airline of the Republic of Serbia, today reported continued improvement in its financial performance with total revenues of EUR 57 million for the third quarter of 2014, an increase of 54 per cent over 2013, achieved by accelerating passenger and cargo growth during the summer months.
The airline's total passenger numbers increased to 730,000 between July and September this year, 74 per cent higher than the 419,000 passengers from the same period in 2013. Air Serbia Cargo also achieved a 64 per cent growth over 2013 carrying 669 tonnes of freight during the third quarter of 2014.
August was a record in the history of the airline. A total of 239,000 passengers travelled with Air Serbia, a 71 per cent increase compared to the same period last year. The first half of August was especially busy with 180,000 passengers travelling with the airline, which boosted the quarter.
Air Serbia's passenger carrying capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometres (ASK), was 967 million by the end of Q3 2014, an increase of 62 per cent over the same period last year.
Aviolet, Air Serbia's charter brand launched in May this year, carried out over 520 flights during the season and transported 90,000 passengers to various summer destinations in Turkey, Greece, Egypt and Italy, among others.
Dane Kondić, Chief Executive Officer of Air Serbia, said: "Our focus on organic growth and codeshare partnerships is delivering strong results, notwithstanding strong competition and subdued economic growth in the region. We have committed to deliver a profit by the end of 2014 and we are on track to do that. We are confident we have the right business and customer strategy, and that we have the right people as part of the team for success. Between January and September Air Serbia carried a total of 1.8 million passengers and 2,000 tonnes of cargo, in each case reflecting an increase of 66 per cent over the same period in 2013. These are impressive numbers and, importantly, revenue is following this trend closely", Mr Kondic said.

In the quarter the airline's fleet expanded to 10 narrow bodies and five turbo-prop aircraft, with the delivery of the last of the A319 aircraft arranged last year. This is the tenth Airbus aircraft delivered to Air Serbia since its launch on 26 October 2013 and the last one until 2018, when Air Serbia expects to take delivery of its first Airbus A320neo.
With the launch of a Tirana service in late September, the airline's network now covers 39 destinations in 29 countries. An additional 20 destinations are offered to Air Serbia guests through its codeshare partners, Etihad Airways, airberlin, Air France, KLM, Tarom and Aeroflot.
Organic growth was supported by codeshare and equity partnerships in the third quarter of 2014. During this period, Air Serbia signed a new codeshare agreement with Etihad Regional providing guests with greater access and connectivity to major Swiss destinations including Zurich and Lugano.

A special pro-rata agreement between Jet Airways of India and Air Serbia has been further expanded to include attractive destinations in India, including Ahmedabad and Goa.
Air Serbia also agreed to expand its current codeshare cooperation with Aeroflot with affect from the winter season 2014/15, enabling Air Serbia guests to fly to Sochi via Moscow.
Air Serbia continues to create jobs, thereby making a significant contribution to the economy of Serbia. The largest ever global drive for pilots was launched in September, and is expected to bring over 40 pilots to the Air Serbia team by the end of this year.
Presently, over 1795 employees work at Air Serbia, including its subsidiaries Air Serbia Catering and Air Serbia Ground Services. The sustained growth of Air Serbia will continue to create a significant number of new positions for Serbian nationals. Also, more than 300 Serbians now work for Etihad Airways with the majority based at the airline's headquarters in Abu Dhabi.
"Our success would not be possible without the commitment and loyalty of our people and I would like to recognize their hard work. They are the engine of our growth. However, at the center of our business are our customers and I also extend our appreciation for their loyal support. We are taking onboard all feedback and continuously improving the way in which we serve our customers, every day", Mr Kondić said.

Belgrade to assume Air Serbia's public debt

Air Serbia (JU, Belgrade) public debt will be assumed by its primary backer, the Serbian government, Belgrade announced earlier this week. Debt coverage was part of the terms and conditions laid down by Etihad Airways (EY, Abu Dhabi Int'l) in its acquisition of a 49% stake in Jat Airways (JU, Belgrade).

The Serbian parliament is expected to pass legislation enabling the state to assume the airline's outstanding liabilities, estimated to stand at RSD19.3billion (USD194.94million).

Among the carrier's creditors are Belgrade operator, Aerodrom "Beograd - Nikola Tesla" P.E., the Serbian national oil company (Naftnoj industriji Srbije - NIS), the Serbian civil aviation authority (Direktoratom Civilnog Vazduhoplovstva - DCV), MRO firm Jat Tehnici, the Air Traffic Control Co. of Serbia and Montenegro (SMATSA), and several local banks.

Payments will be disbursed in two tranches - the first half due by December 31 this year, and the second by 31 March 2015.

A year into its operations, things are looking decidedly rosy for the fledgling carrier with the president of its supervisory board, Siniša Mali, stating that Air Serbia is on track to register EUR1million (USD1.25 million) profit for its current financial year.

Air Serbia e' profittevole.

Etihad-backed Air Serbia posts $3m profit in first full year

Air Serbia, in which Etihad Airways holds a 49 percent stake, on Monday reported a net profit of EUR2.7 million ($3.02 million) for 2014.

In its first full year of operation, the airline’s revenues rose by 87 percent to EUR262 million, marking the strongest results in the existence of the national carrier, according to a statement.
A total of 2.3 million passengers travelled with the airline in 2014, 68 percent more than in 2013.
Air Serbia’s passenger carrying capacity, measured in available seat kilometres (ASKs), increased by 74 percent to 3.3 billion by the end of 2014. Despite this increase the airline’s seat load factor rose by three percentage points from 64 pecent in 2013, the last year of operation as Jat Airways, to 67 per cent in 2014.

Air Serbia Cargo also performed significantly better in 2014, carrying 2,700 tonnes of freight, a 67 percent increase on 2013.
Dane Kondić, CEO of Air Serbia, said: “These results are a great achievement validating the effectiveness of our strategy.
“The profit we have delivered in 2014 is, above all, a great sign for the future, as it lays a solid foundation going forward and is proof positive, of what can be achieved when the right strategies and governance structures are put in place.
”We owe a debt of thanks to our two shareholders – the Government of the Republic of Serbia and Etihad Airways for their ongoing support."

James Hogan, president and CEO, Etihad Airways, added: “We are delighted with the progress Air Serbia has made in delivering on its performance objectives in the very competitive European market.
"Its continued success amidst these challenges will depend not only on continued investment in its workforce and in innovative products and services, but also on the ongoing and strict financial discipline and focus on cost which have marked its first year of operation.”
Since Air Serbia’s launch in October 2013, the airline has undertaken a number of initiatives outlined in its turnaround plan to rebuild the national carrier and transform it into a profitable, stable, reliable and strong airline to serve Serbia and the broader Balkan region, the statement said.
The airline was rebranded and 10 new generation Airbus aircraft were introduced, with eight A319 and two A320 added to the fleet.
During 2014, Air Serbia’s network of direct routes grew to 40 destinations in 30 countries.
Air Serbia's growth has created a significant number of new jobs for Serbian nationals. During 2014, the airline grew its workforce by more than 400 taking the total to over 1,900 employees.
Kondić said: “While the 2014 results are a sure sign that we are on the right path, we must not rest on our laurels and, entering 2015, we are committed to accelerating our growth. We will do this by continuing to grow our route network both organically and through an expansion of our codeshare partnerships."

Air Serbia announces strong results for the first half of 2015

- Total operating revenue up by 29 per cent to EUR 95.5 million
- Total passenger numbers grew by over 19 per cent to 1.12 million
- Available Seat Kilometres up by 10 per cent to 1.74 billion
- On-time performance up by 13.34 per cent to 84.24 per cent
- Air Serbia Cargo achieved 28 per cent growth in revenues with tonnage increased to 1,763
- Created 269 new jobs

Air Serbia, the national airline of the Republic of Serbia, today reported continued improvement in its financial performance with operating revenues of EUR 95.5 million for the first half of 2015, an increase of 29 per cent over the same period in 2014.

Although traditionally the winter season presents significant challenges in traffic levels, Air Serbia broke the one million passenger mark during the first half of 2015, carrying 1.12 million passengers, over 19 per cent more than the 940 thousand passengers in the same period last year.

During H1, the airline's passenger carrying capacity, measured in Available Seat Kilometres (ASKs), increased by 10 per cent to 1.74 billion.

Despite the significant capacity increase, Air Serbia surpassed the aviation industry on-time performance standard at its hub, Belgrade's Nikola Tesla International Airport, with an average of 84.24 per cent in H1 2015. This represents a 13.34 per cent improvement in performance over H1 2014.

Air Serbia Cargo also performed significantly better in H1 2015, carrying 1,763 tonnes of freight, a 42 per cent increase on H1 2014. Cargo revenue grew by 28 per cent, an important and burgeoning service for Air Serbia.

Dane Kondić, Chief Executive Officer of Air Serbia, said: "During the first half of this year we have continued to deliver against the clear commercial mandate set out by our two shareholders. These results are strong even when compared to the encouraging numbers we saw in the first half of 2014, the first full calendar year of Air Serbia's operation. We are pleased that our business strategy that combines sustainable, financially prudent organic growth and development through the expansion of codeshare partnerships, continues to drive our results. Importantly, we have continued to grow not just in revenues and passenger numbers, but also in reputation, performance and maturity, emerging as a regional industry leader in a relatively short period of time. As we approach our second anniversary later this year, we continue to focus on the enhancement of our offer and the development of our people. These are areas that are most directly related to our ability to deliver on superior standards of service, the key factor for our long-term success".

Air Serbia continued to focus on the development of human resources and employment opportunities, a crucial aspect of the airline's overall contribution to the Serbian economy.

In May 2015, Air Serbia launched a national programme of strategic cooperation with a wide range of educational institutions to match students' knowledge and skillsets, and the requirements of the labour market in Serbia. The programme allows Air Serbia to identify and select students who are candidates for employment. The first Memorandum of Cooperation within the programme was signed with the Faculty of Organisational Sciences of Belgrade University.

The growth of Air Serbia is also creating a significant number of new opportunities for Serbian nationals. In the first half of 2015, the airline grew its workforce by 269 new professionals. During this period, a series of employment events for cabin crew were conducted, attended by several thousand potential candidates.

Air Serbia initiated and organised the new phase of its Graduate Management Development Program (GMDP), where eight young graduates will attend a training programme with Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi. Starting this autumn, the program will run for two years, and upon successful completion, graduates will join operating divisions across Air Serbia. Currently, 28 per cent of Air Serbia employees are below the age of 30, in comparison to 4 per cent in the former Jat Airways two years ago.

During the second quarter of 2015, Air Serbia significantly expanded its global footprint through new codeshare agreements and the expansion of existing partnerships with airlines including Etihad Airways, Aegean Airlines, Air China and LOT Polish Airlines. For the first time, Air Serbia's virtual network exceeded its network of direct destinations.

Muscat became the 18th codeshare destination within Air Serbia's codeshare agreement with its equity partner, Etihad Airways. Air Serbia now serves 40 destinations directly, and an additional 41 global points through its codeshare partnerships, which include key destinations in Northern Europe, such as Vilnius, Tallinn and Riga; in Southern Europe: Heraklion, Corfu and Rhodes; in the Middle East and North Africa: Riyadh, Jeddah and Cairo and in the Far East, destinations such as Beijing, Seoul, Singapore and Ho Chi Minh City, in addition to a total of four cities in Australia.

Ahead of the peak travel season, Air Serbia introduced an additional ATR 72-500 aircraft to its fleet. This is Air Serbia's sixth ATR, repainted in the airline's full red, blue and white livery, and with a completely refurbished interior. The aircraft operates in a full Economy Class configuration of 70 seats. With the new addition, Air Serbia's fleet now comprises a total of 20 aircraft - eight Airbus A319, two Airbus A320, three ATR 72-200, three ATR 72-500 and four B737's flying under the airline's dedicated charter brand, Aviolet.

Aviolet geared up for its second summer season, preparing to respond to the needs of Serbian tourists for comfortable, safe and affordable travel. Aviolet operates four rebranded and refurbished Boeing B737-300 aircraft, configured in a comfortable all-economy cabin setting of 144 seats.

In June, Air Serbia received the highly coveted "Best of Serbia" award for 2014 as the "Best Corporate Brand" in the large services companies category. Organised by the Chamber of Commerce of Serbia and the Ministry of Trade, Tourism and Telecommunications, the "Best of Serbia" awards are an important national acknowledgement of excellence in various aspects of Air Serbia's operations, its strong financial results and its contribution to the development of foreign trade and tourism.

Air Serbia plans resume flights between Belgrade and the United States by June next year more than two decades after they were halted due to an embargo because of the war in former Yugoslavia.

Air Serbia, which emerged from the now-defunct Yugoslav-era JAT Airways in 2013 and is now 49 percent owned by the United Arab Emirates airline Etihad Airways, said it would operate five weekly flights between Belgrade and New York.

"These flights are now undergoing approvals by authorities and regulatory bodies," company's director Dane Kondic told a news conference.

The now-defunct Yugoslavia's JAT ended direct flights to the U.S. in 1992 due to the international embargo.

Serbia and neighbouring countries have sizable diasporas in the U.S. and with direct flights from Belgrade, many from the region would no longer have to stop over in major European hubs such as Frankfurt or Zurich.

Kondic also said that the Air Serbia planned to lease its first wide-body Airbus A330-200 airliner for the flights to New York.

He said the airline's third-quarter operating revenue rose 26 percent to 86 million euros (61.08 million pound). Last year, Air Serbia recorded a net profit of 2.7 million euros on revenue of 262 million.

According to company's website, Air Serbia currently operates a fleet of 20 aircraft comprising Airbus, ATR and Boeing models serving 40 destinations directly and an additional 41 airports through codeshare agreements.

Perchè un marchio locale è probabilmente meglio visto dai pax e anche dal governo serbo. Senza bisogno di dover organizzare il tutto a BEG per fare un proseguimento su JFK.
