CEO: Turkish Airlines grows network, but limits to 300 destinations

Turkish Airlines has added more destinations to its network from Istanbul Ataturk. The new destinations include Buenos Aires (Argentina), Sebha (Libya), Niamey (Niger), Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso), Yaounde and Douala (Cameroon) as well Isfahan (Iran).

The carrier now flies to 214 destinations in 94 countries.

On the long-haul route sector, Turkish will add several new destinations next year, including Havana and Mexico City. The carrier is considering more long-haul routes, which could include destinations like Bogota or Panama City.

CEO Temel Kotil told ATW that 300 destinations by 2015 “will be the absolute limit. More will be not possible. We will also increase frequencies throughout our network.” He expects to add 20 to 25 new destinations per year.

Looking ahead, Kotil said, “In 2013, we face a lack of five long-haul aircraft” and is “talking with lessors regarding additional Airbus A330s or Boeing 777s.”

Sì, appunto, chiedeva quali fossero le cause. D'altra parte, mi pare un numero spaventoso, non so quante compagnie possano vantare 250 e più destinazioni, quindi la ragione potrebbe essere che a quel punto staresti già volando verso quasi tutti gli scali possibili (e profittevoli).

Comunque l'Australia rimane sempre fuori dai programmi loro! E pensare che fare Ist/ DPN/SYD, non starebbe male con tutti gli europei che vanno a Bali!

mi sono affidato alla dichiarazione del CEO perchè mi sono imbattuto casualmente nell'articolo. Però a ben pensarci, sarei potuto arrivare alla risposta. Un grazie a SkySurfer per avercela specificata.

17 aerei di proprietà (anzianotti a dirla tutta) su 197 operativi. Interessante...

TK ha comunicato oggi l'intenzione di inserire ulteriori 3 nuove destinazioni per il 2013 :

- Bogotà (Colombia)
- Bamako (Mali)
- Aqaba (Giordania)

A riprova che un hub potenzialmente può funzionare bene ovunque fin tanto che c'è una compagnia forte che guadagna quote di mercato sui transiti.
New York che è la prima destinazione ha poco più di 300 pax per day each way, Los Angeles che segue arriva a 88 via le altre.
Volano a IAH destinazione che movimenta come p2p da IST la bellezza di 18 pax al giorno per direzione, tanto per dire.

Its also interesting to note the amazing growth of local US-Turkey traffic has seen in the last 10-years. For example back in 2001 not even 100,000 people flew between NYC and Turkey, and now the count is over 250,000 !
Add in huge and growing transit traffic, the numbers are even more impressive.

Turkey has truly become both a global transportation hub and a significant local home market.

TK sbarca in Sri Lanka ed annuncia oggi l'apertura dei voli su Colombo, a partire già dal prossimo 1° Febbraio.

CMB sarà, come era facilmente prevedibile, un tag-on sull'attuale rotta IST-MLE.
Fino al 31 Marzo, la rotta sarà 5xw, con 332. Da Aprile, diverrà 4xw ma col più capiente 343.

Cosa molto interessante : TK avrà i diritti di traffico sul settore CMB-MLE.

Dal 21/05, Edimburgo passa da 4 a 7xw.

Rimanendo in tema UK, pare che TK sia in trattative per aprire Bristol.

TK ha già richiesto gli slots necessari per operare un collegamento quotidiano MXP-SAW per la S13. La compagnia dovrebbe aprire un mini-hub nel secondo scalo di Istanbul, per smistare il traffico domestico in connessione e quello point-to-point.

Dovrebbe, tra l'altro, essere imminente l'annuncio sull'apertura di SAW.
