ATR has booked 78 year-to-date orders, setting a record for business activity for the company for the first six months of the year.
“We have achieved 78 orders in 2011,” says ATR CEO Filippo Bagnato. The record order intake is $2.4 billion.
The aircraft maker also has secured 32 options.
The tally includes Azul Linhas Aereas decision today to exercise options for 10 more ATR 72-600s, adding to 20 ordered last year. The first of the -600s are to be delivered to Azul in October.
Three more yet-to-be announced orders are in the total representing 22 firm orders and 12 options. Most of those are for ATR 72-600s, but also include three ATR 42-500s.
Already announced are orders for Lion Air/Wings Air (18 ATR 72-500s); Virgin Australia/Skywest (4 ATR 72-600s, 4 72-500s and 5 options); Gecas (15 ATR 72-600s and 15 options); Malaysia Airlines/Firefly (2 ATR 72-500s); Israir (2 ATR 72-500s) and Borajet (1 ATR 72-500).
The growth in the order book to a backlog of 223 aircraft is prompting ATR to boost production to at least 70 aircraft next year, from around 53 today, with further increases eyed for 2013 and 2014. The backlog represents $5 billion in business and more than three years of production.
Revenue next year is to reach $1.8 billion, up from $1.3 billion this year, and progress to $2 billion per year.

ATR: 78 firm orders and 32 options = 110 aircraft

The year of its 30th anniversary, ATR arrives at the Paris Air Show with a record number of firm orders since the beginning of the year
At a press conference held this morning at the Paris Air Show, Filippo Bagnato, Chief Executive Officer of ATR, announced a record number of orders for the Franco-Italian aircraft manufacturer: 78 firm orders and 32 options registered since the beginning of the year. This is the first time in its history that ATR has entered the Paris Air Show with so many orders on the books (previous record: 53 firm orders and 15 options at the 2007 Paris Air Show).
Breakdown of sales as of January 1, 2011:

UNDISCLOSED UNDISCLOSED 9 ATR 72-600 (+ 12 options)
UNDISCLOSED UNDISCLOSED 3 ATR 42-500
TOTAL 78 commandes (+32 options)

The total of these orders, including the options, is estimated at 2.4 US$ bilion. Nearly 50% of these firm orders were placed by new customers.
Filippo Bagnato said: “This historic level of mid-year sales confirms the attractiveness of our planes and bodes well for sales prospects in the future”.
Since the beginning, ATR has sold 1,152 aircraft and delivered 929.
This brings ATR’s backlog to an historic level: 223 aircraft (worth: 5 US$ billion). This order book translates to more than three years of production.
Regarding the ATR -600 series, he said: “We just certified the new ATR 72-600. With its entry into service shortly, it will become the new reference in regional aviation in terms of advanced technology, comfort and operational and environmental performance. We estimate the demand for turboprop aircraft at more than 3,000 over the next 20 years, while we’ve held 60% of sales on this market since 2005.”
Filippo Bagnato also commented on the renewal and extension in scope of the ISO 14001 environmental certification: “In addition to our sites, we are now green-certified for all stages in the lifecycle of our aircraft. We are proud to be an aircraft manufacturer of reference in terms of environmental friendliness".
As regards the growing interest of aircraft leasing companies, he said: “The significant profitability prospects combined with the potential residual values are the main reasons for lessors’ newfound interest in ATR planes. The strong demand for ATRs, the growing number of operators using our aircraft, and their presence in growing markets are all good arguments for leasing companies. Moreover, out of the aircraft already in operation, the number of ATRs held by lessors has doubled and now represents nearly 20% of our fleet worldwide”.
And to conclude: “We now count over 175 operators and are very pleased to welcome prestigious airlines and players of reference in the world of aviation to the ATR family. Thanks to the interest of our long-time customers and operators, as well as that of new ones, we are going to be able to continue growing. In the medium-term, our goal is to bring ATR to a level of turnover of nearly two billion dollars”.

Riassunto 21 giugno

Di nuovo grazie a FlightGlobal il riassunto della seconda giornata:

PARIS: Neo dominates Airbus orderbook while Boeing orders mount
By David Kaminski-Morrow

Airbus' domination of the show with the A320neo continued on the second day, while Boeing quietly racked up a number of new orders as Aeroflot, Norwegian, Malaysian Airlines and lessor GE Capital Aviation Services (GECAS) contributed to commitments for 35 aircraft.
Airbus secured orders and commitments for more than 100 aircraft A320neos, including US low-fare operator JetBlue Airways which agreed to take 40.
JetBlue's tentative agreement, for which it has yet to make a powerplant choice, is part of a broader Airbus deal under which it will switch 30 of its backlogged A320s to A321s.
But in terms of numbers, US leasing firm CIT Aerospace eclipsed the JetBlue deal for the A320neo after signing a memorandum of understanding for 50 of the type, underscoring the popularity of the re-engined jet with lessors following previous agreements with International Lease Finance, Air Lease and GECAS covering more than 200 A320neos.
If firmed, CIT's backlog of Airbuses would increase to more than 240 jets, including 195 A320-family aircraft - among them the A320neo. CIT's order book also includes A330s and a handful of the new A350 long-haul twinjet.
The order, when firmed, "will help us meet our customers' demand for state-of-the-art, fuel-efficient aircraft", said C Jeffrey Knittel, CIT's president of transportation finance.
CIT has signed agreements with both CFM International and Pratt & Whitney to fit, respectively, their Leap and PW1100G powerplants to the aircraft.
Another batch of 10 A320neos has been picked up by Garuda Indonesia, part of a wider agreement for 25 A320s which will be used to replace the older-variant Boeing 737-300s and -400s at Garuda's low-cost subsidiary airline Citilink. The Garuda deal has been valued at $2.2 billion at catalogue prices.
Garuda's order followed another from Asia, after Taiwanese carrier TransAsia Airways placed a firm order for six A321neos.
TransAsia already operates five A321s and a pair of A320s and has a further six sharklet-equipped A321s awaiting delivery. An engine selection for the new aircraft is yet to be made.
The airline plans to use the aircraft to meet growing demand on regional services, especially on direct routes between Taiwan and mainland China.
While the A320neo will be fitted with the Airbus-developed "sharklet" wingtip as standard, JetBlue could also be in line to launch a new retrofit winglet for older baseline A320s.
Airbus has committed to a winglet retrofit programme and intends to make the winglets available from 2013. The airframer claims the modification will provide a 3.5% improvement in range.
Over at Boeing, European low-cost operator Norwegian has ordered another 15 Boeing 737-800s, taking to 78 the number it has ordered from the US manufacturer.
Norwegian has also firmed its order to buy three Boeing 787s, first agreed in May.
Bjorn Kjos, chief executive at the airline, said: "It is a fantastic airplane [737], it is absolutely the best in class. We have to invest for the future and it has the lowest emissions in its class to date." He added that he was pushing the airframer to produce an all-new 737 replacement. "Boeing has to build a completely new model with considerably lower fuel burn. I am lining up in the queue telling Boeing to build a new aircraft."
Elsewhere MAS signed for 10 more Boeing 737-800s, confirming existing options from a 2008 deal.
It takes MAS's total 737 orders to 45 aircraft - the airline retains 10 options remaining from its original deal.
Russian carrier Aeroflot meanwhile ordered a further eight Boeing 777-300ERs during on day two of the show, while GECAS ordered a pair of Boeing 747-8 Freighters. The 747-8Fs will be delivered in 2014.
