"China Airlines joins SkyTeam '

TAIPEI - China Airlines, Taiwan's largest international airline, joins the SkyTeam airline alliance, which includes Air France-KLM part. That made China Airlines Saturday (September 4) are known, it appeared from reports in Taiwan media.
Mid-September in Taipei should be a letter of intent signed for the entry of the airline. Only then will the process leading to membership started.
Sky Team is celebrating its tenth anniversary. The alliance include Aeroflot, Delta Air Lines and China Southern Airlines connected. China Airlines is the first Taiwanese company to join the alliance.
The alliance focuses increasingly on the Asian market. Earlier this year it was announced that China Eastern Airlines will join SkyTeam. Vietnam Airlines recently became a member of the grouping.

No, assolutamente.
Dalle ultime voci che sono arrivate dai piani alti, è molto probabile che il loro ingresso slitti di ancora tre-quattro anni (a meno di colpi di scena), favorendo così l'ingresso di svariati nuovi membri.

Scusa, stai dicendo che china eastern ci metterà 3 anni ad entrare in skyteam? come mai tempi così lunghi? chi ne avrebbe giovamento dall'allungamento dei tempi?

A fine giugno fu lo stesso presidente di AF-KL a parlare di un probabile ingresso di CI in SkyTeam. Quindi ritengo che abbia fondamento la notizia, comunque tra una decina di giorni si saprà meglio tutto.
 
Lunedì pare ci saranno grosse novità sulla vicenda.


Taiwan's China Airlines set to join SkyTeam

China Airlines (CAL) is set to sign a letter of intent to join the SkyTeam alliance on Monday.

The Taiwanese carrier, which has been in discussions with the alliance for a few years, says in an invitation to guests that it plans to mark a "landmark event" in its 50-year-history in Taipei on that day.

Officials from CAL would only confirm that they plan to join an alliance, and decline to identify which one it would be.

Adding CAL will strengthen SkyTeam's presence in Northeast Asia. The alliance already has China Southern Airlines within its fold, and it said earlier this year that China Eastern Airlines will join it in 2011.

The alliance has been looking to increase its presence in the Asia Pacific, where passenger traffic growth has surpassed that in Europe and North America. Among others, SkyTeam has added Vietnam Airlines and Garuda Indonesia has also signalled its intention to join the alliance.

Bene. Ma non vorrei che l'ingresso della compagnia di Taiwan raffreddasse altri fronti per via delle tensioni politiche con la Cina.
 
Secondo wikipedia i futuri membri di sky team dovrebbero essere:

Aerolíneas Argentinas (la vedo messa fuori dai giochi perchè inaffidbile)

Air Algérie

Air Tahiti Nui

Avianca

Garuda Indonesia

Jet Airways (non collabora molto con Brussels Airlines???)

Malaysia Airlines

Middle East Airlines

TACA Airlines (a quanto vedo a molti c/s con compagnie Star alliance)

Virgin Blue (oggi mi sembra sia stata contestata la sua alleanza con delta)

WestJet (non è in procinto di entrare in ow?)

quanto sono realistiche???

China Airlines to join SkyTeam by mid-2011

China Airlines (CAL) has formally begun the process of joining SkyTeam by mid-2011 after signing a letter of intent with the alliance in Taipei.

The Taiwanese carrier's move comes a few months after Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines signalled its intent to join SkyTeam, and solidifies the alliance's presence in the Greater China market. Guangzhou-based China Southern Airlines is already a member of SkyTeam.

"The inclusion of China Airlines in our network will solidify SkyTeam's unrivalled presence in the Greater China market, a region that continues to experience significant economic growth," says Leo van Wijk, chairman of the alliance's board.

"In addition to the services provided by our existing members, China Airlines offers an extensive cross-straits operation, linking Taiwan to multiple major destinations in China. Also, Taipei will serve as an alternative Asian hub with services to and from key business destinations in the region."

Joining the alliance is a "long-term development strategy" for CAL, says its chairman Philip Wei.

"For many years, we have been actively promoting various types of cooperation with SkyTeam member airlines," he adds. "As the first Taiwanese airline to join the world-class alliance, our strategic target is to continuously strengthen profitability and boost international market competitiveness."

The airline adds that cooperation with China Southern and China Eastern will maximise their network across the Straits in both passenger and cargo operations.

CAL will be SkyTeam's fifth Asian member, with Korean Air and Vietnam Airlines already part of the group.
