EUROPEAN CUP BRINGS BIG NAME SPONSOR ON BOARD
This autumn’s Rugby League European Cup – which features France, Ireland, Scotland and Wales – has received a massive endorsement with the backing of Alitalia as title sponsor.
The Italian national airline became involved in the sport when sponsoring Italy in last year’s event and was so impressed with the feedback and coverage that they have increased their involvement.
“We decided to become an official partner of the Rugby League European Federation because we feel we have comparable values,” said Thierry Aucoc, Alitalia Vice President, Europe Middle East Africa Sales Region.
“The intense commitment and high discipline of the players matches our belief in punctuality, reliability and a modern, vibrant approach to our customer base.”
The link up also celebrates the investment the airline has made in new aircraft, especially the A330 with upscale class ‘Magnifica’ including lie-flat beds; new seats in medium haul; enhanced Italian catering and high quality service on board.
“We are extremely pleased to sponsor the Alitalia European Cup 2010,” Pierfrancesco Carino, Alitalia EMEA Marketing Manager added. “We share a vision of what constitutes a great experience of sport and travel.”
RLEF General Manager Danny Kazandjian expressed his delight at welcoming Alitalia into the rugby league fold. “Alitalia really enjoyed its experience in the 2009 European Cup and was keen to get further associated with the sport,” he noted.
“Having such a strong European brand working in partnership with the RLEF fits our vision for the future perfectly and I look forward to working closely with one of Europe’s premier airlines on the 2010 Alitalia European Cup and beyond.”
There is added incentive for the winners of the Alitalia European Cup as they will qualify for the 2011 Four Nations tournament alongside England, Australia and New Zealand to be staged in the northern hemisphere as build up to the 2013 World Cup.
