Vueling CEO Alex Cruz confirmed, via his official Twitter account, the carrier plans to open a base at Palermo Punta Raisi Airport in Apr-2014. The carrier will base an A320 aircraft at the airport in addition to launching five times weekly Palermo-Florence service on 11-Apr-2014 and four times daily Palermo-Rome Fiumicino service on 10-Jun-2014 – see Route Changes Table for more information (Journal-Aviation.com/TTG Italia, 29-Jan-2014). Alitalia, Blue Panorama Airlines, easyJet and Ryanair also operate on the Rome route, according to OAG. Volotea is currently the only operator on the Florence route. Vueling currently operates twice weekly Palermo-Barcelona service, with Palermo to become the carrier’s third base in Italy.
