Volotea is an airline established by Barcelona-based Alaeo S.L., a company created by former Vueling founders, Carlos Muñoz and Lázaro Ros. As of January 2012 the airline is in the final stages of obtaining its air operator's certificate (AOC) from Spain's national civil aviation administration[1].
The company is backed by three private-equity funds, two of them from Europe and a third one from the United States—CCMP Capital, whose chairman, Greg Brenneman, one-time President and COO of America's Continental Airlines[2], also chairs Volotea's board.
Volotea's fleet is currently made up of a single Boeing 717.
