Virgin Atlantic joins Skyteam

Virgin Atlantic is joining Skyteam – news to follow.
CEO Shai Weiss says that “the pandemic has taught us that the strength of partnerships is important.”
The CEO of Skyteam, Kristin Colvile, said that “Day 1 will be early January 2023, although the exact date is yet to be decided.”
Skyteam flights will be available for booking on the Virgin website and there will be increased reward flights available across Skyteam airlines.
Shai Weiss said “We do have plans for new routes as a result of the decision to join Skyteam and to connect with airlines in the alliance.” Weiss said the announcements would probably ne made next year.
Virgin says that “Flying Club Silver and Gold members will receive a raft of Elite and Elite Plus member benefits delivered under the Sky Priority brand.
The airlines said that its customers “will benefit from a consistent, seamless customer experience, across 1,000+ global destinations.”
Skyteam has a network of more than750 airport lounges.
Virgin Atlantic Silver Card holders will be recognised as SkyTeam Elite Members, whilst the airline’s Gold Card members will become Elite Plus.
Flying Club members will be able to take advantage of the benefits as soon as Virgin Atlantic officially enrolls in SkyTeam, which is expected in early 2023.
Virgin Atlantic’ already had a transatlantic joint venture partnership with Delta Air Lines and Air France-KLM, each already long established SkyTeam members. The four partners are co-located at London Heathrow’s Terminal Three, alongside existing Sky Team members Aeromexico and China Eastern, providing customers with smooth airside transits and the most convenient connections times possible.
