The Air France-KLM Group’s summer schedule (25 March – 28 October 2012)

Wednesday 22 February 2012

Given the uncertain economic environment, the Air France-KLM Group’s increase in capacity in available seat-kilometres (ASK) will be limited to +0.6% including +0.8% on long-haul and -0.2% on medium-haul, excluding the provincial bases. With the launch of the bases in Marseille, Toulouse and Nice, where Air France is significantly reducing its operating costs, the group’s medium-haul operations will post an increase of +3.0%, bringing the total increase in capacity to +1.4%.

The Air France summer schedule (25 March – 28 October 2012)
•Stable capacity, + 0.1% on long-haul and +0.2% on medium-haul excluding the provincial bases
•Wuhan, fifth destination in China
•An offensive and reactive strategy on departure from the French regions

For its summer schedule, Air France is adapting to changing market conditions and is offering stable capacity* (+0.1%) compared with summer 2011, excluding the development of the provincial bases and +1.7% including the bases.

On its long-haul network, Air France is posting capacity* of +0.1% and is increasing activity to Latin America (+9.7%), Asia (+6.3%) and Africa (+4.9%). Air France is reducing capacity* to North America (-6.5%), the Middle East (-17.5%), the Caribbean and the Indian Ocean (-2.2%).

In Africa, Air France plans to launch a new route to Port Gentil**in Gabon and will be resuming service to Abuja** (Nigeria), previously operated by KLM. Air France will continue to increase capacity* to Abidjan, Lomé, Malabo and N'Djamena. ANNEXES

The long-haul schedule (+0.1%)

The long-haul fleet

To provide a more homogeneous product on predominantly leisure destinations, 12 Boeing B777-300s will be equipped in June 2012 with Premium Voyageur seats instead of Alizé seats. These aircraft will then be able to serve indifferently all predominantly leisure destinations worldwide.

Late summer 2012, Air France’s seven Boeing 747-400s will all be equipped with the latest generation seat in Business class and individual video screens in Voyageur.

As part of its fleet rationalization policy, Air France is continuing the replacement of its B777-200s with 247 seats (including 170 in Voyageur) with a new version equipped with 309 seats (including 250 in Voyageur). The number of aircraft offering this new configuration now stands at 14 aircraft.

A reduction in capacity coordinated with JV partners on the North Atlantic

In North America, in coordination with its partners Delta, KLM and Alitalia, Air France is significantly reducing seat capacity (-6.5%).

Air France is suspending services to Seattle (taken over by Delta) and Newark from the beginning of the summer season, then Orlando as from 3 September. In the same way, Air France is reducing seat capacity whilst maintaining the number of frequencies to Miami and Toronto.

Furthermore, Air France is introducing the A380 on its route to Los Angeles: 7 weekly frequencies operated by A380 and 8 frequencies operated by B777-200 will replace the 20 frequencies operated last summer by B777-200 and B777-300.

Redeployment of activity to high growth areas in Latin America and Asia, and ongoing adaptation of capacity to demand in areas affected by geological and political crises in 2011

The Latin American network is posting a strong increase in capacity (+9.7%).

Air France is adding one weekly frequency operated by B777-200 to Santiago de Chile, services now becoming daily.

Furthermore, to Rio de Janeiro, the night flight is operated by the B747 with new improved Business class and Voyageur cabins.

In Asia, Air France is posting an increase in capacity of +6.3%.

The launch of flights to Wuhan (3 weekly frequencies operated by B777-200) complete Air France’s flight offering to China.

The introduction of a night flight from Beijing to Paris-CDG contributes to the improvement of the Air France flight schedule to and from the Chinese capital.

Air France is increasing capacity to Shanghai by introducing the A380*, which will operate 3 of the 14 weekly frequencies.

To Singapore, Air France is adding 3 weekly frequencies by B777-200, in addition to the daily flight operated by B777-300.

Services to Japan are returning to pre-crisis levels to Tokyo-Narita (resumption of a daily flight by A380 in addition to the daily service operated by B777-300).

However, Air France is reducing capacity to Hong Kong (12 weekly frequencies), Delhi, Bangalore and Bombay (6 weekly frequencies each). Services to Bangkok are changing, with the suspension of the leg on to Phnom Penh (now served via Ho Chi Minh), and 3 weekly frequencies operated by B777-300 instead of 7 weekly frequencies operated by B777-200.

In Africa, Air France is posting increased capacity of +4.9%.

Air France intends to launch services to Port Gentil* and is resuming a daily flight to Abuja which up to now was operated by KLM, with a daily leg on to Port Harcourt.

As in winter, Air France will be operating a daily service to Abidjan, and will continue to increase capacity to Lomé with 5 weekly frequencies this summer compared with 4 last summer.

In the same way, Air France is adjusting capacity by using a more adapted aircraft to Douala (A340) and a smaller aircraft to Cairo (A330), where demand remains low.

In the Middle East, Air France is significantly reducing seat capacity (-17.5%).

In addition to the suspension of flights to Abu Dhabi, Air France is adapting capacity to Damascus, with 4 weekly flights operated as an extension of the flight to Amman (instead of 5 non-stop flights).

Readjusting services to the Caribbean and Indian Ocean

Finally, in the Caribbean-Indian Ocean, Air France is reducing capacity by -2.2%.

Air France is changing capacity to Mauritius and Havana by replacing the B747 by the B777-300. To Havana, Air France is also removing one weekly frequency (6 weekly frequencies instead of 7).

On departure from the French regions, Air France is suspending its Lyon-Hamburg, Lyon-Birmingham, Clermont-Ferrand-Amsterdam and Bordeaux-Lisbon routes.

Furthermore, Air France is suspending one daily Bordeaux-Barcelona service, now operated by one daily flight.

The domestic flight schedule excluding provincial bases (+3.2%)

An offensive and reactive strategy on departure from the French regions

The schedule on departure from the provincial bases

The bases at Marseille, Toulouse and Nice are the main new features of Air France’s medium-haul summer schedule in summer 2012. By significantly reducing its operational costs, Air France is able to offer unrivalled capacity on departure from these 3 major cities.

Marseille

In summer 2012, Air France will be making a few adjustments at the Marseille base.

There will be 4 new international destinations: Barcelona (2 weekly flights), Berlin (2 weekly flights), Hamburg (4 weekly flights), Marrakech (3 weekly flights)and Venice (5 weekly flights).

Moreover, Air France is increasing capacity to Prague by adding one weekly frequency (3 weekly flights).

In the same way, flights to Eindhoven are being suspended, whereas those to Düsseldorf are being decreased (3 instead of 7 weekly flights)

Furthermore, on the domestic network, services to Biarritz (3 weekly flights) and Nantes (24 weekly flights) will increase, whereas services to Mulhouse are being slightly adjusted (6 weekly flights).

Non vedo Tripoli, dovrebbe rientrare nella summer 2012 visto che riprenderà a fine marzo. Incredibile il -17,5% in Medio Oriente.

Interessante Port Gentile in Gabon:

In Africa, Air France plans to launch a new route to Port Gentil**in Gabon

L'apertura di quest'ultima destinazione dipenderà molto dai lavori che interesseranno la pista nel corso di quest'anno, portandola dagli attuali 1900m a circa 2600m.

As part of its fleet rationalization policy, Air France is continuing the replacement of its B777-200s with 247 seats (including 170 in Voyageur) with a new version equipped with 309 seats (including 250 in Voyageur). Dopo quello AF ecco il riassunto della S12 per KLM

Amstelveen | 22 February 2012

KLM service schedule at a glance

In light of the current difficult economic circumstances and high fuel costs, KLM's service capacity during the summer season, which commences on 25 March, will remain the same as last year, with hardly any expansion.
Within this carefully balanced capacity policy, KLM intends to consolidate its growth in Central and South America, two new destinations will be introduced in Africa (Luanda and Lusaka) and the total capacity deployed in North America and Asia will remain virtually the same. KLM’s strategic position in Greater China will be strengthened even further with the introduction of a non-stop service to Taipei and an increase in the number of flights to Hangzhou during the height of summer. Capacity on services to destinations in the Middle East will be reduced by 8 percent. The total capacity of the airline's service to destinations in Europe will also continue to remain the same, however the number of seats on flights to Southern Europe will be reduced, whilst strategic positions in North-western Europe will be strengthened.
KLM will add new, state-of-the-art and fuel-efficient aircraft to its short and long-haul fleet in order to replace the old, less efficient fleet.

Europe, focussing on North-western Europe

North-western Europe

KLM will expand its services to Denmark and Norway with additional daily flights from and to Aalborg, Billund, Stavanger and Sandefjord/Torp. In France, KLM is adding capacity from and to Toulouse and Bordeaux and in Germany it is also adding capacity from and to Bremen, Frankfurt and Stuttgart. The expansion that took place in the United Kingdom last summer will be continued and has been expanded to include a flight from and to Aberdeen. The three daily flights to Liverpool have been suspended, but the region will continue to be served by six daily flights from and to Manchester.

Southern Europe

In Spain, the number of flights from and to Barcelona and Madrid has been reduced. KLM is keeping the number of connections to Madrid at the required level by collaborating with Air Europe. In Italy, KLM is centring all flights to Milan at Linate airport, in collaboration with its joint venture partner Alitalia. KLM is also increasing the number of daily flights it operates to Venice from three to four.

Eastern Europe
In Eastern Europe, KLM is continuing to work on improving its product by collaborating closely with local partners. KLM will increase the number of daily flights from two to four between Amsterdam and Kiev, two of which will be operated by KLM.

Northern America, selective growth

Together with Delta Air Lines, KLM's partner in the transatlantic joint venture, KLM is strengthening its market position in the United States and Canada. Major investments are being made in the hubs of Delta Air Lines: in June, the new international terminal in Atlanta will come on stream and flights from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol to Atlanta will be operated four times per day. Together with Detroit (four times per day), Minneapolis (three times per day) and New York JFK (three times per day), the most important Delta Air Lines hubs will be served fourteen times per day, thereby enabling passengers to access Delta Air Lines' extensive network of services to domestic destinations in the USA.
Dallas-Fort Worth is returning to the network this summer season with five flights per week in an Airbus A330-200. Flights to Miami will be offered by Delta Air Lines, via Atlanta. Washington Dulles will welcome the new Airbus A330-300. At Houston, the number of flights will be reduced from thirteen to seven flights per week and the service to Los Angeles will be expanded with three flights to ten flights per week during the high season (June to August inclusive).
Flights to Toronto will be offered twice a day during the summer, flights will be offered to Vancouver in a Boeing 777-200 instead of an MD-11 and Calgary will be upgraded to become a daily service, serving these destinations. Together with partner Westjet, a large number of secondary Canadian destinations will also be offered from here.

Central and South America, continuation of the winter schedule

Flights to destinations in the Dutch Caribbean continue to be extremely popular. The number of flights operated during the past winter season will be carried forward and will total 14 flights per week.
Flights will be operated to Havana (Cuba) three times per week as a direct service. Flights will also be offered to Punta Cana (Dominican Republic) by Air France via Paris.
The daily service to Panama that was introduced last winter will be continued. What is more, connections to destinations in Central America in collaboration with partner Copa Airlines will be further improved as connection times are reduced.
South America continues to form an important growth market for KLM. The increased capacity that was deployed last winter will continue to be implemented during the coming summer season.
Rio de Janeiro (Brazil) and Buenos Aires (Argentina) were added to the network as new destinations last winter. Both metropolises are served with direct flights three times per week and capacity on services to Buenos Aires has been increased by deploying a Boeing 777-300. In collaboration with partners Gol and Aerolineas Argentinas, a large number of secondary destinations will be offered in South America via São Paulo (Brazil), Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires.
The number of flights to Quito/Guayaquil (Ecuador) has been increased from three to four per week compared with last winter. A Boeing 747-400 will be deployed on services to Paramaribo (Suriname). The number of services will total four per week during the high season (July and August) and three per week outside of the high season.

Africa, new destinations

The oil destination of Luanda (Angola) will be added to the KLM network as of 27 March. Flights will run to this destination on Tuesdays and Fridays on a night/night schedule, so as to complement the flight schedule operated by Air France.
What is more, Lusaka (Zambia) will be added to the network with three weekly flights starting from 15 May. Zambia has witnessed considerable economic growth as a result of the mining industry. In terms of tourism, Zambia also offers a range of different options, primarily concentrated in the area around the city of Livingstone, near the Victoria Falls.
The number of flights to Entebbe (Uganda) and Kigali (Rwanda) has been increased to six per week. The new Airbus A330-300 will be deployed in the West-African destinations of Lagos (Nigeria) and Accra (Ghana).
KLM will serve Cairo (Egypt) with flights on a Boeing 777-200 three times per week this summer. KLM intends to resume flights to Tripoli (Libya) with effect from May 2012.

Middle East, some services withdrawn and all services enhanced

KLM will improve its Middle East product by offering a direct service from and to Doha (Qatar) five times per week, with an onward connection to Muscat (Oman). The number of flights to Dammam (Saudi Arabia) has also been increased from five per week to a daily flight and will be operated in combination with Kuwait. Abu Dhabi (UAE) and Bahrein will be served five times per week. A limousine service will be available between Bahrein and Dammam, so that both destinations are served to an optimal extent.
The number of seats on the midday flight to Dubai (VAE) has been increased. The evening flight to Dubai will be suspended during the summer.
KLM will continue to operate six flights a week to Teheran (Iran).

Asia, consolidating a strong position

KLM continues to have a strong presence in the Greater China Region. As well as continuing to offer flights to the destinations that were introduced over the last two years (Chengdu, Hangzhou and Xiamen), a direct and daily service will also be introduced to Taipei (Taiwan), with an onward connection to Manila. During the high season (June to September inclusive), Hangzhou will be served four times per week. In collaboration with KLM, partner China Southern Airlines is increasing the number of flights it runs between Guangzhou and Amsterdam from three per week to a daily product.
Due to the high level of recovery of demand, the capacity in Japan is once again back at the level it was prior to the earthquake and tsunami at the beginning of 2011. This means that ten flights run to Tokyo Narita every week and one flight to Osaka every day.
In South-East Asia, a daily, non-stop service will operate to Bangkok (Thailand). Services to Bangkok were previously combined with those to Taipei. The new daily non-stop service will therefore increase the number of seats available to Bangkok. The number of flights to Denpasar (Bali, Indonesia) will be increased from four to seven per week, with a stopover in Singapore.
A flight to Delhi (India) is offered with an Airbus A330-200, instead of an MD-11.

Fleet

KLM continues to invest in clean and environmentally friendly aircraft in order to guarantee its customers an optimal service.
Two new Boeing 777-300s and three new Airbus A330-300 ERs are set to be added to the airline's long-haul fleet. The new fleet will be phased in as the McDonnell Douglas MD11s start to be phased out.
This summer, the medium-haul fleet will consist entirely of new generation Boeing 737- aircraft.
Five new Embraer 190 aircraft will be added to the short-haul fleet, while the Fokker 100s will be phased out during the course of the year.

KLM begins widebody fleet renewal with A330-300 delivery

By Karen Walker | March 1, 2012

KLM expects deliveries of its Boeing 787-9s to begin on schedule in October 2015, but is in no rush to make an engine selection (ATW Daily News, Jan. 11).
The Dutch carrier has 23 787s on order plus options for 25 more aircraft through parent company Air France KLM Group. The aircraft will make up a significant portion of KLM’s fleet renewal plan, which will focus on replacing its aging Fokker F-100s with Embraer E-190s and replacing much of its widebody fleet with a mix of Airbus A330s and A350s, as well as Boeing 777s and 787s (ATW Daily News, Sept. 19, 2011).

Speaking in Toulouse Wednesday, where KLM took delivery of the first of four new A330-300s it has on order, KLM VP fleet services Peter Slobbe told ATW the fleet renewal would be accompanied by new business-class interiors across its widebodies, beginning next year with its 747s. The carrier operates 22 747-400s, including 16 combis. An announcement on the new lie-flat seat supplier will be announced soon, Slobbe said.

The A330-300 delivered Wednesday is leased from Air Lease Corp. (ALC), the first all-new aircraft that KLM has taken from the lessor. The second -300 will be delivered in March and the third in April, with both aircraft leased from GECAS. A fourth -300 will be delivered in January 2013 and will be owned, although Slobbe said there remains the option to do a sale and leaseback deal. In addition, a 12th A330-200—also to be leased from ALC—will be delivered in April 2013.

KLM is also scheduled to receive three more 777-300ERs in June and July this year and May 2013, adding to its current fleet of five -300ERs and 15 777-200s. Along with the 787s, they will help replace the 747s and 10 MD-11s.
“We have the flexibility at the moment to be able to speed up or slow down the phasing out of the MD-11s and 747s,” Slobbe said.
A choice between GE or Rolls-Royce engines has yet to be made on the 787s, but Slobbe said the carrier will likely wait to see how each engine does in service with earlier 787 operators. All Nippon Airways (ANA) is the only current 787 operator and its aircraft are powered by Rolls Trent 1000 engines.

Final negotiations are continuing over a Group purchase of A350s, Slobbe said, but the intent is for Air France to take the lead on those deliveries.
Meanwhile, the last five F-100s will be phased out by the end of this year and five more E-190s will be delivered between March and May, bringing KLM’s Embraer fleet to 21 aircraft.
KLM also operates 25 Fokker F-70s and 46 Boeing 737 NextGen narrowbodies. Slobbe said there are no near-term plans to replace those fleets.

Air France KLM sells half of Amadeus shareholding for €467 million

By Cathy Buyck | March 2, 2012

Air France KLM Group (AF KLM) has sold about half of its 15.22% shareholding in Amadeus IT Holding, netting €467 million ($627.5 million). The sale of 7.5% of its ownership in the travel technology and distribution company is surely part of its efforts to restore profitability. The Franco-Dutch group in January launched a three-year “transformation plan” to bring the company back to profitability by immediately cutting costs by €1 billion and rapidly reducing debt by €2 billion to €4.5 billion by the end of 2014 (ATW Daily News, Jan.13).
On March 8, AF KLM will announce financial results for its shortened nine-month financial year 2011. An analyst consensus forecast an operating loss of around €240 million and a net loss of up to €650 million. IAG this week announced a €555 million net profit for 2011 (ATW Daily News, March 1).
AF KLM sold the 7.5% stake in Amadeus though a private placement. Rothschild has acted as adviser of the Group. The placement was managed by Goldman Sachs International and Santander.
AF still retains 7.72 % of Amadeus IT Holding and said this brings its shareholding in line with Iberia’s and Lufthansa. The three carriers, together with SAS Scandinavian Airlines, founded Amadeus as a global distribution system (GDS) in 1987.
“Air France, as well as Iberia and Lufthansa, which hold respectively 7.50 % and 7.61 % of the share capital of Amadeus IT Holding S.A., have each agreed to a lock-up of a 90-day period,” AF KLM Group said in a short statement.
