Comunque sia Emirates aspirava moltissimo del traffico verso lo Sri Lanka (Che all'inizio non era un luogo tanto stabile, mi ricordo il botto che avevo sentito una notte a Colombo, non ho mai saputo cosa fosse successo non parlando al lingua locale e non leggendo nulla).
Inoltre mi ricordo che la maggior parte dei pax erano destinati alle maldive

Srilankan sta rinnovando la flotta di lungo raggio. Mandato in pensione i 340 rifatto la J sui 330-200 con un prodotto non eccelso ma comunque full flat e ha cominciato a ricevere 330-300 con la stessa J di CX. Il servizio ed il cibo no sono di rango ma meglio delle cinesi o di AI (provato il 787 DEL-FCO). Su Roma volava il 330-200 ma a fine 2015 è capitato anche il 333 su alcune rotazioni... Dall'estate era previsto il 333.... La Y non l'ho mai provata ma la J era ottima come rapporto qualità prezzo (FCO-BKK 333 su CMB BKK 1350 euro e meno di due ore di stop a CMB)

Sembra che anche Parigi volgerà al termine da novembre, anche se al momento non c'è conferma ufficiale ma solo ufficiosa.


Sri Lanka's ailing national carrier cuts more flights to Europe

SRILANKAN Airlines will be discontinuing flights to Paris soon after a major convention of French travel agents concludes in Colombo on the first week of November.

It had earlier on May 1 cut flights to Rome. Flights to Frankfurt and London will continue for now, it’s only remaining stops in Europe.

The airline, which reported an accumulated loss of 140 billion rupees (US$958 million) as of March 31, is being restructured to make it more attractive for acquisition, said Eran Wickremaratne, deputy ministry of the Public Enterprise Development in Sri Lanka to parliament on Tuesday.

“We have to dress up the bride to seek a proper suitor,” said the deputy minister, whose ministry handles the airline.

The airline has been in the news over the past few weeks after its burgeoning debt situation and weak financials were released by the government.

It is also currently undergoing staff cuts with a voluntary retirement scheme on the cards for its 7,000 strong workforce.

SriLankan Airlines’ chairman Ajit Dias says the goal now is to change its focus, especially towards India, and will position itself as an Asian carrier.

The airline currently has 100 weekly flights to India and is now sourcing for a local public relations agency there.

UL ha annunciato oggi uggicialmente la chiusura di Parigi e Francoforte.
Rimane quindi solo Londra come pedina europea, che tristezza però.


SriLankan Airlines continues to re-structure and review its network

Colombo June 27, 2016: SriLankan Airlines, the national carrier of Sri Lanka, will be suspending its operations to Paris and Frankfurt, from winter 2016. Accordingly, the last flights between Frankfurt and Colombo (UL 553/554) will be operated on October 30, while UL 563/564 of November 6, 2016 will conclude the operations between Paris and Colombo.

The Government of Sri Lanka has made it clear that it will no longer fund continuing losses. Airline sources said that the route network is being continuously evaluated in the context of changing market dynamics in order to maximize on sustainable routes which bring in more contribution towards the bottom line.

While the drop in fuel prices has contributed to the airline’s improved performance, this benefit has been significantly eroded with the airline’s revenues declining for the F/Y ending 2015/16 compared to the previous year. Addition of capacity to the Colombo market particularly by Middle Eastern carriers, accompanied by a drop in airfares in European markets has seen the contribution of the European network drop in comparison to the other routes. This has been further exacerbated by the depreciation of the Euro against the Dollar. Airline sources further stated that there were no short term signs of recovery in yields.

SriLankan operates daily flights to both Doha and Abu Dhabi and has a strong code share relationship with Etihad and Qatar through which it will continue to provide onward connectivity to the European destinations it has been serving via Paris and Frankfurt.

London will remain the Airline’s gateway to Europe, where the Airline has deployed its state-of-the-art A330-300 fleet for daily non-stop operations, providing a greater comfort and an enhanced flying experience to its passengers.

The Indian Sub-continent, the Middle East and the Far East will remain SriLankan’s focal markets, where the Airline will continue to explore its potential for expansion.

E comunque , in ogni caso , nel breve periodo viene mantenuto lo status quo. Ci sarà modo di cambiare la strategia eventualmente quando si sarà delineata la situazione.

Continuo a ripeterlo fino alla noia la Brexit (forse) ci sara' come minimo due anni dopo che qualcuno (al potere) invoca l'art.50 del trattato di Lisbona. Fino adesso non l'hanno fatto. Il referendum ha un puro valore consultativo, praticamente il valore legale di un sondaggio di opinioni.

Quanto ho capito stanno parlando con la Qatar per vendere una percentuale... poi ho visto che sono in codesharing per gli scali europei con la QR. Ho visto un articolo e che stanno parlando con la PIA per i nuovi A333 che hanno preso, forse faranno ACMI per conto della PIA.
