Incident: Cathay Pacific A333 near Singapore on May 16th 2011, engine shut down in flight, engine fire
A Cathay Pacific Airbus A330-300, registration B-HLM performing flight CX-715 from Singapore (Singapore) to Jakarta (Indonesia) with 136 passengers, was climbing out of Singapore when the crew reported trouble with the right hand engine (Trent 772) and returned to Singapore for a safe landing about 45 minutes after departure. Emergency services put a fire out in the right hand engine, the passengers disembarked normally via stairs.

The runway was closed for about an hour.

The airport reported: "A Cathay Pacific flight, CX715, bound for Jakarta, departed Singapore Changi Airport at 0112 hours today (1712 GMT Sunday). Due to an engine-related issue, the aircraft turned back to Changi Airport and landed safely at 0157 hours. Upon the landing of the aircraft, Changi Airport's airport emergency service responded immediately with six fire vehicles and extinguished a fire in one of the engines."

The airline said the crew received a #2 engine stall indication and shut the engine down. The airplane landed back without incident. The passengers were taken to hotels and rebooked onto other flights.
