Shanghai Pudong airport gets approval for two new runways

By: MAVIS TOH SINGAPORE 4 hours ago Source:

Shanghai Pudong International airport has received government approval to build a fourth and fifth runway, said the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).

The 3.8km long fourth runway, which will come with new air traffic control equipment, will cost yuan (CNY) 2.58 billion ($407 million). This runway will be built to handle large aircraft such as the Airbus A380, said regulator CAAC.

A new air traffic control building will be built alongside the 3.4km long fifth runway. This project is expected to cost CNY4.7 billion.

The new runways will cater to the estimated 650,000 flights that the Shanghai airport will likely handle by 2020, said CAAC.

Peraltro, è una previsione nemmeno particolarmente ottimistica. L'obiettivo di 650.000 voli al 2020 deriva da una previsione di crescita annua del traffico del 7%, con circa 75 milioni di passeggeri (dati Chinese Airport Authority).
