Ryanair Launches 31st Shannon Route to Palma Mallorca as The West Says Good Riddance to Aer Lingus' High Fares
Ryanair, Ireland’s largest airline today (13th Jan) announced its 31st new route from Shannon to Palma Mallorca on the day that Aer Lingus terminates its profitable Shannon Heathrow service.
In response to Aer Lingus’ abandonment of Shannon, Ryanair has doubled flights to London and now offers seven daily low fare connections from Shannon to Gatwick, Luton and Stansted airports, at fares that start from €5 including taxes and charges. Ryanair will carry two million passengers to/from Shannon in 2008, supporting 2,000 local jobs.
Speaking today in Shannon, Ryanair’s CEO Michael O’Leary said,
“Today, as the people of Shannon say ‘Good riddance’ to Aer Lingus’ high fares, we are giving free flights to Shannon to all of the passengers departing on Aer Lingus’ last flight. We are also announcing another new route from Shannon to Palma Mallorca, opening 16th March.
“To celebrate, Ryanair is giving away thousands of free bonus flights, no taxes, no fees, no charges to any passenger who books any Ryanair flight from Shannon before midnight Monday. With seats available from just €5 including taxes, thousands of passengers in the Mid-West will be able to pick up two tickets for just €10. We advise passengers to book now as demand for these bargain seats will be unprecedented”.
To accommodate the opening of the new Palma and London services, the Shannon -Dublin route will cease from 3rd Feb.
