ALITALIA TO FLY LAX-ROME BEGINNING IN JUNE - NEW INTERNATIONAL ROUTES TO LAX GENERATE BILLIONS FOR SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA ECONOMY

(Los Angeles, California – February 21, 2008) Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa today cheered the announcement that Alitalia Airlines will fly non-stop from Los AngelesInternationalAirport to Rome five times a week beginning in June, the only non-stop service between California and Italy. The announcement is another example of a recent trend among international carriers that are choosing LAX as their West Coast gateway, adding to the billions of dollars in economic activity generated in Southern California by overseas flights of wide-body aircraft.

"I am pleased that Alitalia has chosen LAX as its U.S. West Coast gateway. The opening of the non-stop route between LAX and Rome will strengthen business, tourism and cultural ties with one of the most desirable cities in Europe, while providing improved connecting service to more southern European destinations,” Mayor Villaraigosa said.
“Gaining new and increased international service at LAX and LA/Ontario International is a top priority for my Administration because of the substantial contribution these flights make to the economy of Southern California. Alitalia’s new non-stop service to Rome is a prime example of the type of air service we want to attract to our airports.”</u>

Alitalia is the sixth carrier to begin or announce new transoceanic international service to Los Angeles since October. This continues a recent trend toward increased international air travel at LAX, which had consistently lost market share in the aftermath of Sept. 11, 2001, and solidifies the airport’s position as the leading international gateway on the West Coast.

Update: Alitalia to Launch Nonstop Service From LAX to Rome, Italy

LOS ANGELES, CA -- 02/21/08 -- On June 1, 2008 Alitalia Airlines returns to Los Angeles with nonstop service to Rome, Italy.

The flight will operate five days per week and will be the only nonstop service between California and Italy.

Traveling eastbound, AZ flight 621 will depart Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at 3:10 p.m. and arrive Rome, Fiumicino Airport at 12:10 p.m. the following day. Traveling westbound, AZ flight 620 will depart Rome, Fiumicino Airport at 9:10 a.m. and arrive LAX at 1:10 p.m. the same day. The departure and arrival times allow for connections to and from other cities in California and across the Southwest.

Alitalia will operate a state-of-the-art Boeing 777-200 aircraft on the route. The 291 seat aircraft will offer passengers two classes of service: 42 seats in business class and 249 seats in economy class.

According to Thierry Aucoc, Alitalia's Sr. Vice President for North America, the return to Los Angeles is a key element of Alitalia's new business strategy.

"Alitalia is very pleased to return to Los Angeles, which is an important market in terms of visitors to Italy and as a destination for Italian travelers. The re-opening of the Los Angeles gateway with service to Rome reflects Alitalia's return to its traditional mission as a carrier that serves Italy. Rome is Italy's most popular destination and a natural gateway for traffic to other points in Italy and the Mediterranean area. From Rome, LA passengers will be able to connect to Italian cities such as Florence, Milan and Venice, as well as to destinations outside of Italy."

Ciao [:306]

Mi vengono in mente LH, LX, AF, BA, KL, adesso AZ. C'è altro [?]

Aer Lingus, Aeroflot, Virgin Atlantic e LTU
Grazie, come ho fatto a dimenticarmi di LTU ma anche di Aer Lingus [^]

Quindi riepilogando 8 compagnie 'di bandiera' (Lufthansa, British Airways, Swiss, Air France, KLM, Alitalia, Aeroflot, Aer Lingus) e 2 compagnie 'intruse' :D (Virgin Atlantic, LTU). Ottimo vista anche la collocazione geografica di LAX che certo non la favorisce sui collegamenti per l'Europa.

AER LINGUS DUB-LAX 5xw
AEROFLOT SVO-LAX 5xw
AIR FRANCE CDG-LAX 9xw, 16xw durante l'estate; LHR-LAX 1daily
BRITISH AIRWAYS LHR-LAX 2daily, 3daily durante l'estate
KLM AMS-LAX 1daily, 9xw durante l'estate
LTU DUS-LAX 5xw
LUFTHANSA FRA-LAX 1daily, 2daily durante l'estate; MUC-LAX 1daily
SWISS ZRH-LAX 1daily

quoto!!!......in bocca al lupo davverooo!!!!!

Se sei una compagnia con velleità intercontinentali, aprire su LAX è sicuramente un'idea intelligente.

Riuscire a guadagnarci è tremendamente più difficile. Se poi ti chiami Alitalia è 10 volte peggio.

Per me dura poco, tipo 1 anno e mezzo. Non è gufare, è buonsenso.
