Cathay Pacific Airways today announced that it will launch a new four-times-weekly service to Madrid, the capital city of Spain, on 2 June 2016 (subject to government approval). As the only direct link between Hong Kong and Madrid, the new service will provide greater convenience for business and leisure customers travelling between the two cities and give passengers travelling from Southern Europe easier access to key destinations in Mainland China and Asia.

Strategically located in the Iberian Peninsula, Madrid is culturally rich yet cosmopolitan. The vibrant city is an important financial and business centre that also draws leisure travellers from around the world thanks to its historical landmarks and rich heritage. It is also home to Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid, two of Europe’s biggest football teams.

Tickets for the new Madrid service are already on sale. To ensure passengers enjoy a superior inflight experience, Cathay Pacific will operate flights using a Boeing 777-300ER aircraft fitted with the airline’s award-winning Business Class, new Premium Economy and long-haul Economy Class seats. A state-of-the-art on-demand entertainment system in all classes will help to keep passengers relaxed and entertained.

Cathay Pacific Chief Executive Ivan Chu said: "We are delighted to launch flights to Madrid and become the only airline to offer direct non-stop services between Hong Kong and Spain. Network expansion is part of our core strategy, underpinning our efforts to strengthen Hong Kong's position as one of the world's great international aviation hubs. We are committed to expanding our presence in Europe, having recently added Manchester, Zurich and Düsseldorf to our network, and we are now pleased to offer more choice and convenience to passengers travelling between Hong Kong and Madrid.”

Cathay Pacific goes daily on Manchester flight

Cathay Pacific is celebrating three years of operating out of Manchester airport by going daily.

The airline has upped its service to Hong Kong in response to popular demand

The airline’s regional general manager Europe James Ginns said the decision to up the five-times weekly service from the start of December had been made in response to strengthening northern economic activity.
He added flights would be operated using an Airbus A350 and once in Hong Kong, passengers can access connections to a further 190 destinations.
Ginns said: “Boosting our Manchester flights into a daily service highlights the popularity of the route and the global importance of the Northern Powerhouse.
“We are delighted to be part of the journey in forging further links between the North West, Asia and beyond.
“The Northern Powerhouse and Hong Kong share a parallel focus on science, innovation, technology and the arts; both dynamic cities are built on hard-working, business-savvy communities with a huge appetite for arts and culture.
“We would like to take this opportunity to thank those living in the region who have helped to make the route such a success.”
Manchester airport commercial director Stephen Turner added: “The route provides easy access for leisure and business travellers, plus unlocks a host of economic opportunities for both destinations.
“We are delighted how popular the route has been in its three years of operation, and look forward to working with the airline as it grows from the UK’s global gateway in the North.” TTG

A proposito di CX, ho letto pochi giorni fa un articolo di un probabile passaggio in Star Alliance e sostituzione in oneWorld con China Southern che lascerebbe Skyteam. Il riallineamento sarebbe dovuto all’investimento di QR in CZ.
