Lufthansa rolls out new check-in terminals

Lufthansa has today (16 February) initiated the process of replacing 300 of its existing check-in terminals with upgraded versions.
Milan Malpensa airport, the base of the recently launched Lufthansa Italia, and the airline's home hub in Frankfurt will be the first destinations to see the new terminals.
Lufthansa is aiming for all of its check-in terminals throughout Europe to be replaced by the end of April.
The new facilities enable quicker and more flexible check-in through the use of radio frequency identification (RFID) technology, which can read passports and cards, as well as larger monitors for ease of use.
Passengers with machine-readable passports or ID cards can check in by scanning their identification and receiving a boarding pass, while those who have checked in online can access a menu to change their seat or make other alterations.
Lufthansa claims to be the first airline worldwide to use check-in terminals equipped with RFID technology.
The carrier launched its Lufthansa Italia subsidiary this month with flights to Barcelona and Paris from Milan and will extend its network in March with connections to London, Madrid, Brussels and other cities.
