Planned service resumption or new service appeared on this blog:
Amsterdam – Miami Service Resumes from 27MAR11, 4 weekly MD11
Amsterdam – Xiamen New 3 weekly service from 27MAR11 with 777-200ER

Con discreto ritardo è arrivato il comunicato relativo a Xiamen

KLM to launch scheduled service to Xiamen

AMSTELVEEN, 20 December 2010 – KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will begin operating scheduled service to Xiamen International Airport in China on 27 March 2011. KLM is the first airline to offer direct flights between Xiamen and Europe.

“This 7th destination in Greater China strengthens the KLM position in this fast growing market. From Europe KLM has the largest destination portfolio on Greater China (China, Hongkong and Taiwan). With this new route KLM offers 43 weekly frequencies to China,” says KLM President & CEO Peter Hartman.

This was announced today at a press conference in Xiamen, where Vice-Mayor Pan Shijian of Xiamen and Peter Hartman signed a cooperation agreement.

“China Southern Airlines is very pleased with this new flight of KLM and another milestone in the cooperation”, says Zhao Xiaosong, Senior Vice President International Affairs and Alliances of China Southern Airlines.

Xiamen is the second-largest city in the province of Fujian and has a population of 3 million inhabitants. Owing partly to its favourable geographical location, Xiamen is undergoing rapid economic growth, attracting large international corporations. The city is also a tourist destination with interesting cultural and historical highlights.

The new service will be operated three times a week. Flight KL883 will depart from Amsterdam Airport Schiphol on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, returning from Xiamen the following day. The return flight, KL884, will depart from Xiamen International Airport on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, arriving in Amsterdam on the same day. Flights will be operated with Boeing 777-200ER equipment, which can seat up to 318 passengers: 35 in World Business Class and 283 in Economy Class.

KLM’s SkyTeam partner China Southern Airlines offers connecting flights to and from Xiamen from a host of destinations in China.

KLM Expands Strongly into Caribbean
and Introduces Direct Flights to Ecuador

Amstelveen – 2011-02-07

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines is performing a robust expansion into the Caribbean, offering an additional 2,600 seats each week. The expansion will start when KLM’s winter schedule goes into effect on 30 October. On that same date, KLM will introduce direct flights to Quito and Guayaquil in Ecuador.

“For the first time in our history, KLM will make more than a half-million seats available to the Caribbean, annually,” said Peter Hartman, KLM’s CEO. “By performing this strong capacity expansion, KLM is offering Dutch holiday-makers many more travel possibilities.”

Nine times a week, KLM will depart from mainport Schiphol to Curaçao, daily to Bonaire, five times weekly to Aruba and three times a week to St Maarten. On Mondays and Saturdays KLM will operate two flights daily to Curaçao. The flights to the Caribbean will use Boeing 747-400s and MD-11s.

When the winter schedule goes into effect KLM will also offer a direct connection to Ecuador. KLM will replace the five flights a week to and from Ecuador, which includes a stop in Bonaire, with three direct flights each week to Quito in combination with Guayaquil. The direct connection without a stop in the Caribbean constitutes a major improvement for passengers as it shortens their travel time significantly. At the same time, KLM is reinforcing its position in the Ecuadorian market. The flight to Ecuador will use a Boeing 777-300 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.
