Zimbabwe's CAA reports drill as Boeing 767 Accident
By Simon Hradecky, created Thursday, Aug 5th 2010 10:40Z, last updated Thursday, Aug 5th 2010 10:46Z
A suspected Boeing 767 accident at Harare Airport has turned out to be a disaster drill under realistic circumstances with actors playing victims and distressed relatives.
Aviation Officials said earlier confirmations of an accident were false.
The head of Zimbabwe's Civil Aviation Authority David Chawota had said earlier: "I can confirm that a 767 plane coming from London has had an accident at Harare airport".
The only link between London and Harare is Air Zimbabwe's service UM-722/UM-723 Harare-London Gatwick-Harare. Air Zimbabwe's Boeing 767-200 Z-WPE had flown UM-722 yesterday arriving in Gatwick at approx. 18:45L (17:45Z), the airplane is still in London however and estimated to depart today by 18:25L (17:25Z).
