Dear Michael O'Leary,

For three decades the pilots of Ryanair have suffered because of poor management practices in the company. Continuous decline in pay and conditions paired with the use of fear and bullying to force on us an ever increasing workload. We thank you for your letter 5th October as the beginning of the end of this version of Ryanair, not just for pilots but for all of the people who work for Ryanair.

-Ryanair pilots do not accept "supplements" as a vehicle to increase our remuneration. These numbers would be tied to base deals meaning for some bases they could be renegotiated quite soon and almost certainly will change in the companies favour.

-Ryanair pilots are not interested in the loyalty/productivity bonus (bond). Pilots who join Ryanair learn in their first months how closely you monitor pay rises and how much effort you put into avoiding them for a few days or weeks where it is possible to adjust a pilots roster. You would need to be a Ryanair "Ninja Warrior" to secure the current bonus offering.

-We don't accept bench marking with local "737" competitors, it is perfectly obvious that several of our bases don't have a competitor that operates a "737" fleet. Obviously here we see a tiny glimpse of loopholes you are creating to avoid fulfilling your commitment when the opportunity arises.

-Your "significant" offer of WOFF is still substantially below the industry average. Despite the appalling treatment of our passengers in the last few weeks you are still ready to risk more cancellations to try and deny your pilots the same conditions as other operators.

-Yes you will fix the management of the roster and other service departments in the company. Not to please the pilots but because the schedule will continue to keep fall apart if it is based on this shoestring management style. You must invest in the software and the people. We will not settle for some temporary duck-tape solutions.

-By the time a pilot reaches the milestone of Captain they usually have reached the age of starting a family, buying a house and other efforts in settling down. Yet you have never considered them as anything more than aircraft parts. You never consider where they want to live or work, often sending people to parts of Europe where it is impossible for them to get home during their off days. You give whatever contract suits your accountants on the day. Your new captains don't want one off bonuses to jump into the "meat grinder" flight ops department, they want respect; respect for their work, respect for their lives, respect for their futures, respect for their families and personal lives.

-The LTCs, TREs and TRIs of Ryanair are truly incredible people. Not only do they fulfil their role as pilot in this incredibly intensive environment but they do it while training new pilots. They have to do their own job, they have to do the cadets job, because they cannot yet do it, and they have to teach. And on top of that you have made the terms and conditions so bad there are so few of them that they never get a break from training. Twenty flights in five days always functioning at 120% effort. Your offer must match this commitment by your training department.

-You don't have a "base selection process" so it's not clear how you could develop of improve it. The pilots want seniority for base transfers and they want it done transparently.

We now ask that you reformulate your offer to address the many failings documented here.

We also insist that where a region requests, by vote, a contract based on the employment law and taxation system of that region then this request shall be granted before any negotiation takes place.

The pilots welcome this new direction of the company, we see that it is the first small step and it is not at all detailed or certain. We will continue to join the pilot unions and associations of Europe and mobilise their resources in anticipation of your failing to further develop this offer or indeed to start to row back on your commitments to date.

You have addressed us as one so we reply as one.

Warmest regards,

The pilots of Ryanair.
