Hi gents,

I had the pleasure and opportunity to fly with the US Army CMTC AvnDet @ Hohenfels AAF in Germany on March 18, 2008.

I was surprised that I was the first foreign photographer who ever flew a mission with them, and so we had plenty of work too do, to arrange everything two be two days down there in Hohenfels covering the unique unit: THE FALCONS.

Luckily as we arrived in Southern Bavaria early on the morning it was still snowing, we were surprised when the whole day was plenty of sun out too, to cover all aspects of the Falcons.
We still had everything from snow through sun on that day, and at the end of the day we were more as happy to had so much fun out there..... :)

I had the opportunity to fly missions with the Falcons and one was overhead the box, so the call the training area which is 10 x 20 km wide.
We flew under call sign "Falcon 20" a 3 hours mission on that day, to give a convoy of 6 Humvee´s and 2 1,5 ton trucks air support , as we were simulating two AH-64 loaded with 300 rounds of ammo and more as 28 rockets.....

We flew during our mission close-air-support and even two straffing runs, to "knock off" a suspicious vehicle with bad guys [}:)]

I was really impressed by the professionalism of both crews, as they had to deal with lots of radio calls ... talking through the crews on the ground, a-air, tower etc..... wow!

We had as well time for some a-air shots too after the mission was succesfully completed... hope you like them!
As you can see the Falcons flying still my beloved "HUEY" [:p] and will soon get a new type which will replace the Huey :(

Luckily 4 a/c are still flying around with nice aggressor c/s... simulating a HIND - wow!
These Hueys still looking really nice , when you flying especially tactial low on the "box"....

The other 6 Hueys are so called "Observer" Hueys.... with a green c/s and yellow markings, and the "OC" sign in the rear door too.

And when you see only on the news short reports from such operations im Afganistan or Iraq, I told the crews after the flight too, that they are doing a great job to save as well there brothers on the ground too.

I hope you like my impressions from my visit in Hohenfels and more will follow soon..... [:306]

Cheers,
Mick
