GA has put all cards on a full Sky Team membership. In that process, it is supported by KL. In January, GA claimed to keep all options open. Working together with KL then didn't imply Sky Team membership.

After arrival of the first flight in AMS on June 2, GA chairman Emirsyah Satar, saying "We want to become a member of Sky Team. However, if you want to visit a friend at home, you don't start by blowing the door, you wait until it is opened for you. That process takes time, so we patiently wait".

The article continues, suggesting that FRA will probably be the next destination, with cities like London and Rome on the wish-list. If the Sky Team membership progresses smoothly, then CDG will probably be the next destination served after AMS. (no sources mentioned though).

GA has 10 777-300ER on order, 6 of which will be delivered 2011-2014. As soon as the first 777 is delivered, that will replace the A330 on AMS, and the stop in DXB will be skipped.
GA will grow its fleet from 71 currently to 116 in 2014, consisting of
- 738 for short haul
- 332 for medium haul
- 77W for long haul

Previous reorganisations allowed GA to make a $100 mln profit in 2009. GA will seek a further $300 mln from stock exchange. Mr Satar stresses that the most remarkable feat is the product improvement: modern aircraft with modern facilities. That, in conjunction with Indonesian hospitality has enabled them to become a 4-star airline. GA has the ambition to be a 5-star airline by 2014. Currently, Skytrax has only awarded 6 airlines with this rank.

come dicevo...notevoli passi avanti :

It is clear that a real process of transformation has become well progressed at Garuda Indonesia, and aside from new aircraft and new onboard products, it was improvements in onboard service that were most frequently commented upon by survey respondents."

The runners-up in this Award category also received acclaim from Skytrax, with Hainan Airlines another airline where survey respondents specifically highlighted the standards of onboard service. nulla di nuovo, se non che c'è ancora da aspettare parecchio.

National carrier PT Garuda Indonesia is planning to launch a new route serving direct flights from Indonesia to Italy in 2014.

“The new route to Italy is part of Garuda’s plans to expand its routes in Europe,” Garuda executive director Emirsyah Satar said Tuesday in Jakarta.

Emirsyah said that the airline also planned to open new direct flights to the U.K., Germany and France, adding that the company would need seven more airplanes to fly to the European countries.

“We have ordered seven Boeing 777 airplanes, two of which will arrive in 2013, while the rest are expected in 2014,” he said as quoted by Antara.

Garuda has served direct flights from Jakarta to Amsterdam in the Netherlands. (swd)
