Stelios vuole aprire FastJet, un vettore rivale ad easyJet

Fastjet: Stelios Launches Rival To EasyJet

EasyJet is considering legal action after being notified that its founder Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou is setting up a rival airline called Fastjet.

In a statement EasyJet announced it was told of the new launch, and that it will act to protect its rights.

"easyJet plc announces that it has received notice from Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou that he intends to set up an airline branded Fastjet and that a website has already been established," it said.

The budget airline added that it had a number of rights under its agreements with SIr Stelios and his easyGroup holding company and that if any of these are infringed, it "will take necessary action to protect the rights of easyJet and the interests of its shareholders".

Sir Stelios, who founded the airline and remains a non-executive director on its board, has alleged that easyJet breached the terms of a contract between the two parties, according to the airline.

easyJet said it "emphatically rejects" this and "continues to seek constructive dialogue with easyGroup and Sir Stelios".

The news comes just after the easyGroup founder withdrew his calls for an extraordinary general meeting in order to remove a member of the airline's board.

Sky's City editor Mark Kleinman spoke to shareholders not related to the founder's family and said they were furious about the news and were waiting find out details on Fastjet.

Commenting on the news, said the move had the potential to undermine easyJet's value.

"Clearly Stelios has been working on this new airline venture for some time and it suggests that war and acrimony are about to break out again between the two sides."

Sir Stelios and his family are the largest shareholders in easyJet with 38% ownership.

He has declined to comment on the new venture.

The Fastjet website only has the words "Fastjet.com by Stelios. Coming Soon!"

"Ladies and Gentlemen Fastjet welcomes you to London [... / ...] We do apologize for the delay of this not FAST service and the inconvenience that it may have caused!" :D

Sir Stelios Haji-Iaonnou is working on plans to launch a transatlantic airline that would pit him head to head with British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, the Sunday Telegraph reports. The newspaper reveals that Fastjet, the new airline planned by the Greek-Cypriot businessman, is unlikely to compete head to head in Europe with easyJet, the low-cost airline in which Sir Stelios and his family hold a 37.4% stake.

It reports the Fastjet name is only one of a number of names the billionaire is considering registering. He may also register 'Stelios' as a brand. Sir Stelios is also said to be working in partnership with other entrepreneurs who are already attempting to build an airline.

In an interview with the Sunday Telegraph in which he refused to comment on his plans for Fastjet, he said of his growing spat with the easyJet board: ‘On the one hand, they are briefing the press that my strategy on easyJet is wrong. On the other hand, they are wasting shareholders' money on expensive lawyers trying to keep me out of the industry.’

Stelios guarda a fattibilita' di Fastjet come LCC per il mercato Africano

EasyJet founder looks at feasibility of African LCC
By: Dominic Perry London 12:20 5 Dec 2011

EasyJet founder Stelios Haji-Ioannou is to examine the feasibility of launching a new low cost carrier in Africa after agreeing a deal between his EasyGroup business and investment firm Rubicon Diversified.

In a stock exchange statement, Rubicon said that it had entered into a conditional arrangement with EasyGroup, which could see the latter acquire a shareholding of up to 15% in the investment company.

In return, Rubicon will "use the services of Stelios and EasyGroup's experienced aviation management team to provide general strategic, management and branding advice on the feasibility of implementing a low-cost, point-to-point, no-frills, all jet aircraft business model for Africa".

Rubicon unveiled its plans for an airline acquisition on 17 November.

It will also get the rights to use the Fastjet.com brand for an initial period of 12 months. It said: "Following this period, provided the company has taken delivery of a western standard jet aircraft liveried as Fastjet.com or completed a substantial transaction which is classified as a reverse take-over under the AIM Rules, Rubicon's rights to the Fastjet.com brand would continue on a perpetual basis."

EasyGroup will receive a royalty fee for use of the Fastjet brand for a period of 10 years.

The company intends to recruit four to five aviation executives who will be selected and led by Haji-Ioannou.

Rubicon will ratify the deal at a shareholder meeting on 13 December.

Cominciano a delinearsi le strategie

FastJet Plans 15-Strong Airbus Fleet in Africa Discount Push

FastJet, the African discount airline startup backed EasyJet Plc (EZJ)’s Stelios Haji-Ioannou, said it aims to operate 15 leased Airbus SAS aircraft within a year and will be a prospective customer for new models from the European planemaker and U.S. rival Boeing Co. (BA)
FastJet will add five leased A319 jetliners, which can seat as many as 156 people, within six months, before building up to three times that number, London-based holding company Rubicon Diversified Investments Plc (RUBI) said today in a statement.
Africa’s first continent-wide, low-cost airline will use operating licenses held by majority owner Lonrho Plc (LAF)’s existing Fly540 unit to establish flights in Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania and Angola. The company opted for an Airbus-based fleet after saying last month that E-190 regional jets from Embraer SA (EMBR3) of Brazil were also under consideration.
“The decision to launch FastJet with the Airbus A319 will offer unit costs low enough for us to cut fares and stimulate the market,” Rubicon Chief Executive Officer Ed Winter said in an interview. The airline is likely to move toward purchasing its own planes in three to five years, with the Airbus A320 neo and Boeing 737 MAX the most likely contenders, he said.

Capacity Boost

The first aircraft will be leased from Nomura Babcock Brown Co. and are scheduled for handover as early as September, Rubicon said, with further deliveries due later in the year.
The initial five jets should double Fly540’s capacity to the equivalent of 1.5 million passengers a year within six months, Winter said, with each aircraft potentially carrying upwards of 250,000 passengers.
A rise in GDP and consumer spending means Africa is ready to support a discount carrier of the kind that has transformed aviation elsewhere, according to Winter, who has worked at EasyJet and British Airways. Like carriers from Southwest Airlines Co. in the U.S. to Malaysia’s AirAsia Bhd. (AIRA), Fastjet aims to create a market using fares low enough to persuade some people to fly for the first time and others to travel more.
The four markets to be targeted by Fastjet all have large- scale oil or gas developments, from which wealth is beginning to trickle down to a growing middle class, the executive said.
The airline was established after Rubicon bought Lonrho Aviation, which runs Fly540, in an $85.7 million all-stock reverse takeover which gave Lonrho a 73.7 percent holding.
EasyJet founder and No. 1 shareholder Stelios, who goes by his first name, has a 5 percent stake in Rubicon and will receive 0.5 percent of its revenue for providing consulting services and use of the Fastjet name, which he owns. The discount aviation pioneer also nominated Winter as CEO and will sit on Rubicon’s board.
While European discount operators fly to north Africa and there have been experiments with low-cost carriers south of the Sahara, no pan-continental service has so far been attempted.
