Emirates urges Airbus to push ahead with A380neo plans
Emirates (EK, Dubai Int'l) would consider ordering more A380s should Airbus Industrie (AIB, Toulouse Blagnac) revamp its existing A380-800 with improved fuel efficiency and newer engines.
Commenting on remarks made by Airbus CEO Fabrice Brégier that the A380 would have to evolve in order to better compete with the proposed B777X from rivals Boeing (BOE, Chicago O'Hare), Emirates Chief Commercial Officer Thierry Antinori told Reuters at the ongoing Berlin ILA Airshow: "We can just encourage Airbus to continue and speed up the possible improvements, especially the fuel efficiency and a Neo version. If the Neo version is coming we could consider ordering more planes."
As the world's largest operator of the type with 47 currently in service, Emirates has an additional 92 on order. The A380 is used on flights from its Dubai Int'l hub to the Middle East, the Far East, South East Asia, Western Europe, Russia, Australia and North America.
