Just three weeks after its launch, Emirates has already announced plans to significantly increase seat capacity on its flights between Dublin and Dubai with the introduction of a B777 on the route from July 1.

With the changes, Emirates will increase the number of available seats on the service by 52% to 360.

The decision to increase capacity comes exactly three weeks after Emirates launched the new service, which according to the airline, has already become one of its “most successful” ever route launches.

Emirates began operating the Dublin-Dubai service on January 9, with a 237-seater Airbus A330-200.

Salem Obaidalla, Emirates’ senior vice president of commercial operations for Europe and the Russian Federation, said: “Normally, this would provide enough capacity for the first 2-3 years of a new route operation.

“However, Dublin is exceeding our expectations much faster than was predicted and we need more seats to satisfy demand.”

Emirates will introduce the 360-seat B777 aircraft on the Dublin-Dubai route from July 1.

Vincent Harrison, director of strategy at Dublin Airport Authority, said: “This is excellent news for Dublin Airport and shows the strength of the long-haul market to and from Ireland.

“This is Emirates’ fastest ever capacity expansion on a new route and we look forward to welcoming its larger B777 aircraft to Dublin.”

Emirates currently operates from Terminal 2 at Dublin Airport.

The terminal will get another new long-haul service in June this year, when United Continental adds a new Dublin-Washington service to its existing Dublin-Newark operation.
