EasyJet wil neerstrijken op luchthaven Lelystad
01 Sep 07, 09:06

EasyJet telt jaarlijks ruim 40 miljoen passagiers.

Veloce riassunto dell'articolo dall'olandese :

New designation
Before Lelystad Airport can be expanded, the airport will first have to obtain a new designation (licence) from the Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management and the Minister of Housing, Spatial Planning and the Environment. The possibility to issue such a designation was created by the Planologische Kernbeslissing (Key Planning Decision - PKB for short) for the airport, which came into effect in May 2004. It offers Lelystad Airport the possibility to extend the runway and start offering scheduled flights. The PKB contains details of the limits within which Lelystad Airport is going to be allowed to expand. It states that the runway may be extended to a length of 2,100 metres. It also contains details of the noise contours for general aviation and commercial aviation, which represent the maximum limits within which the volume of air traffic is allowed to develop. The PKB therefore states the maximum capacity that Lelystad Airport is licensed for. On the basis of this PKB, Lelystad Airport submitted a designation request to the Minister of Transport, Public Works and Water Management in September 2005. The Ministry is currently considering this request.

Future possibilities
The new designation should take into account the existing General Aviation traffic that already uses Lelystad Airport and the General Aviation traffic that will be moving here but is currently still using Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. The new designation should also offer room to expand Lelystad Airport into an airport that can handle a couple of million passengers a year, arriving from and departing to destinations within Europe. These passengers will be travelling on narrow-body aircraft like the Boeing 737 and Airbus A 320. It is not expected that wide-body aircraft such as the Boeing 747, the Airbus A 380 and the MD 11 are going to be using Lelystad.

New facilities
Lelystad Airport is going to develop into a regional airport over the next couple of years, which is not only going to have capacity for the general aviation traffic that currently already uses this airport but also for the general aviation traffic that currently still uses Schiphol Oost. Moreover the airport is also going to have capacity for scheduled flights. These flights are going to be taking place between 06.00 hours and 23.00 hours, with an extension possibility for delayed flights until 0.00 hours.

To allow Lelystad Airport to fulfil this new function, the existing runway is going to be extended to 2,100 meters. According to the current plans, a new passenger area is going to be constructed to the north side of the airport with an apron, terminal and car park. If you would like to get an impression of what the new Lelystad Airport is going to look like, why not take a look at the following film (FILM NEW LELYSTAD AIRPORT). In future, Lelystad Airport wants to be able to handle around 4 million passengers a year travelling on flights to destinations within Europe. It wants to ensure that only the latest and quietest aircraft are used for these flights such as the Boeing 737 type 700 and 800 and the Airbus A319/A320/A321 with high seat occupancy rates and thus minimal fuel consumption per passenger.

Procedures
Before the ministers can issue the new designation, Lelystad Airport is going to have to show in an Environmental Impact Assessment that the environmental impact of its expansion is going to stay within the limits of the PKB. Lelystad Airport has drawn up a Notification of Intent for the Environmental Impact Assessment, which is available for inspection or downloading (PDF VERSION NOTIFICATION OF INTENT). Requests for the environmental assessment can be submitted from 5 January up to and including 15 February 2006. Six information evenings are being organised at which it is possible to obtain information about the plans and the procedures.
Details of the dates of these information evenings and the scheduled hearings
can be found in this advertisement (ADVERTISEMENT INFORMATION EVENINGS AND HEARINGS). The Environmental Impact Assessment will contain full details of the impact that the expansion of Lelystad Airport is going to have on the environment. Lelystad Airport also wants to include details of alternative approach and departure routes. Lelystad Airport wants to avoid routes over urban areas or village centres.

Timetable
It is expected that the overall designation procedure is going to take around 2 years. The construction of the new facilities is also going to take a fair amount of time. The runway will not be extended to 2,100 metres until 2008 at the earliest.
