TIA records more than ten per cent growth in 2009
Number of passengers flying into and from Tirana continuously increasing Last year, Tirana International Airport (TIA) had an excellent performance, serving 1,394,688 passengers, and recording further impressive growth at one of the best infrastructure facilities in the country. TIA recorded 20,064 air traffic movements (ATMs) and handled 1,711 tons of cargo. In comparison with the previous year, passenger numbers increased by 10.1 per cent and ATMs by 4.5 per cent, with cargo being the only sector showing a decrease, of 13 per cent. With these figures, TIA is listed among European airports as one with the highest growth for 2009. The growth Tirana International Airport showed during last year is strong proof of our excellence. Even in times of crisis we have recorded great figures. We are very proud of our continuous success. Given Albania's expanding business travel market, TIA foresees great opportunities for more growth, together with our partner airlines, said Mrs Andrea Gebbeken, Chief Executive Officer of TIA.
In 2009, the airlines carrying most passengers to and from Tirana were Belleair (42.8%), Alitalia (13.4%), Albanian Airlines (8.9%), Austrian Airlines (5.9%) and Turkish Airlines (5.6%). Currently, twelve airlines fly in to and out of TIA, connecting directly the Albanian capital city with 33 destinations, including flights to Zurich, Liege and Stuttgart, inaugurated in the latter half of last year. The decision of the airlines to expand the number of routes is based on the Airport’s remarkable passenger growth recorded over the last couple of years.
TIA is committed to offering its passengers, airlines and business customers the best. Every day the Airport tries to offer a better service, and it constantly maintains a safe, secure environment for its customers. The company offers a high standard working environment for all airlines operating on its premises.
