Copa Airlines orders 61 Boeing 737 MAX 8 and -9 aircraft

Panama-based Copa Airlines has signed for 61 Boeing 737 MAX 8 and -9 aircraft, in an order valued at $6.6 billion at list prices. This is the largest commercial transaction between a Panamanian and a US-based company. Panama President Juan Carlos Varela Rodriguez and

US President Barack Obama witnessed the historic agreement at the seventh Summit of the Americas.

The aircraft were previously attributed to an unidentified customer on Boeing’s Orders and Deliveries website. They will be powered by CFM LEAP-1B engines.

Copa chairman Stanley Motta called the order “an important step in strengthening Copa’s leadership in the region as we enhance our world-class product and expand our network.”

Copa will use the 737 MAXs to replace existing aircraft and support the carrier’s plans for strategic growth. Copa will be the first airline in the region to operate the 737 MAX 9 on deep South American routes. The 737 MAX 9’s range and passenger comfort are ideally suited to Copa’s long-haul route network.

To date, Boeing said the 737 MAX has accumulated 2,715 orders from 57 customers.

E' interessante come riescono ad operare tutte le destinazioni con il 737, anche EZE (2800nm)... Mi aspettavo qualche "upgrade" a un aereo à la 330
