Bombardier: Paris Air Show to be a ‘big step’ in CSeries sales effort

Bombardier plans to build on recent “momentum” in the CSeries program to increase sales totals for the aircraft, according to Bombardier Commercial Aircraft president Fred Cromer.
The delayed CSeries, which is now slated to enter service with Swiss International Air Lines in the first half of 2016, has had disappointing sales so far with just 243 firm orders. Speaking Tuesday at the Regional Airline Association (RAA) convention in Cleveland, Cromer said “the key going forward” is “absolutely” to build the order book.
In terms of flight testing, “the program is doing extremely well,” Cromer added. “It’s got this momentum now that we can build on and certainly our presence at the Paris Air Show will be a big step.” Bombardier plans CS100 flight demonstrations and a static display next month at the Paris Air Show, which Cromer believes will allow potential customers to get a “hands on” look at the aircraft, boosting the sales campaign.
“Obviously, a big focus has been on certification,” Cromer said. “Now we can take [positive flight test data] out into the market.”
In a video update shown to reporters at the RAA convention, CSeries program GM Rob Dewar said Bombardier has completed over 70% of CS100 certification tests. Overall, the CSeries flight test program has totaled more than 1,600 hours. The larger CS300, whichachieved first flight in February, has totaled over 100 hours of flight testing.
Dewar said high altitude operations testing with CS100 flight test vehicle 2 (FTV2) were recently completed in Colorado.
Separately, Bombardier announced Tuesday that it has reached an agreement with Pratt & Whitney to use the engine manufacturer’s eFAST “near real-time” data health monitoring system on the CSeries. Dewar said eFAST “has the power to change how airline maintenance crews manage their activities, resulting in fewer mechanical delays and superior dispatch reliability.”

Global 5000/6000 Output Cut To Affect 1,750 Workers

Bombardier Aerospace confirmed today that approximately 1,750 employees—up to 1,000 in Montreal, 480 in Toronto and 280 in Belfast—will be “progressively impacted” by the company’s announcement last week that it will reduce Global 5000 and 6000 production rates. The move is prompted by short-term “economic conditions and geopolitical issues in some market regions, such as Latin America, China and Russia, [that] have affected order intake levels,” it said. Long lead times for aircraft outfitting mean that the “adjustment” won’t affect delivery rates this year.

Workforce reductions will begin next month at Bombardier’s aerostructures and engineering services unit, which makes the Global subassemblies, and continue progressively to the final assembly line from September through the first quarter of next year, a spokesman told AIN. Bombardier will attempt to find other open positions within the company for displaced workers, he added.

While Bombardier would not disclose what the adjusted annual production rate will be, aviation analyst Rollie Vincent told AIN that he predicts it will drop from the current 80 per year to approximately 55 Globals next year. This would be in line with levels in 2012, when the company delivered 54 Globals. Vincent expects production cuts to be predominantly weighted toward the Global 5000

Si dice che, dopo la presentazione al Bourget, il primo CS100 in livrea LX farà scalo a Zurigo Kloten per alcuni giorni. Arrivo il 17 o 18 giugno...
