BA's Cairo hiatus 'unrelated' to airports: Egyptian ministry

Egypt's government insists that British Airways' decision to suspend operations to Cairo is not linked to security measures at the country's airports.
BA has halted flights on the London Heathrow-Cairo route for a week, citing security reasons, although it has not given specific details.
The Egyptian government says its civil aviation minister has met with the UK ambassador to discuss the "unilateral" decision by the carrier, claiming that Egyptian authorities were not notified beforehand.
But the ministry states that the suspension is "not related" to security measures at the country's airports.
Egyptian airports have been undergoing a security overhaul after a number of carriers opted to halt flights to Sharm el-Sheikh in the aftermath of the suspected sabotage of a Russian-operated Airbus A321 in 2015.
"Both sides stressed the continuation of joint efforts and co-operation to resolve the issue as soon as possible," the ministry adds. FG
