Fare profitti, target previsto inizialmente per quest'anno, è in realtà un obiettivo prematuroa. Tuttavia la compagnia potrebbe raggiungere il pareggio alla fine dell'anno se le nuove misure adottate continueranno a portare benefici come finora.
Lufthansa's AUA could break even - exec in paper
(Reuters) - Lufthansa unit Austrian Airlines could still break even for 2011 as cost-cutting measures start to bear fruit in the second half of the year, an executive of the unit told an Austrian newspaper.
"We will not be able to reach the original target (of an operating profit), but have not yet given up on a break-even," management board member Andreas Bierwirth told daily Wirtschaftsblatt, according to an interview published on Friday. Austrian Airlines, which Lufthansa bought in 2009, posted an operating loss of 66 million euros ($93.5 million) in 2010, according to Lufthansa's annual financial report.
Bierwirth told the newspaper it appeared that the trough in air travel demand in eastern Europe had passed, and business there would pick up from next year.
"Poland, the Czech Republic and Russia are already working again now," the newspaper quoted him as saying.
He said he also expected demand for trips to Japan to return to year-earlier levels in July after a slump following an earthquake and nuclear crisis that hit the country this year. (Reporting by Maria Sheahan; Editing by Jon Loades-Carter) ($1=.7062 Euro)
