Buona lettura:
May 8 (Bloomberg) -- Air One SpA, Italy's second-largest
airline, will buy 50 new single-aisle Airbus SAS A320 planes
valued at a total $3.65 billion, gradually replacing its Boeing
Co.'s 737s as part of an expansion started last year.
The Italian airline will have ``the youngest fleet in
Europe,'' Rome-based Air One said in a statement today.
Air One had options to buy 50 aircraft from European
Aeronautic Defense & Space Co.'s Airbus unit after ordering 40
planes in the past year. The A320s will be delivered by 2012, Air
One said.
The carrier is one of the three bidders that presented non-
binding offers to buy most of Italy's government 49.9 percent
stake in unprofitable Alitalia SpA, the country's largest airline,
in April.
Air One plans to add long-haul routes next year and use other
planes ``for which negotiations are at an advanced stage,'' it
said. The airline expects to increase its European destinations to 35 from the present nine by 2012.
Airbus's 150-seat A320 has a range of 3,450 statute miles
(5,550 kilometers) and costs an average of $73 million apiece at
list prices, which don't include discounts provided for large
orders.
