The Spanish airline Andalus Líneas Aereas has gone bankrupt, leaving the Gibraltar airport without its regular Madrid-Gibraltar connection.
The air link has now been indefinitely suspended following the bankruptcy.
Andalus Líneas Aereas had tried to fill in for both Iberia and GB Airways which pulled out of the Gibraltar run in 2008.
It is believed the improved train connections to Madrid from southern Spanish cities may have had something to do with the airline failing to pick up substantial passenger numbers.
