Engine failure on Qantas flight during take-off
AsiaOne | Mon, Jan 17 2011

Passengers on Sydney-Los Angeles plane heard a "loud bang" and saw smoke emanating from the engine.

A QANTAS plane in Sydney suffered an engine failure as it was preparing for take-off on Saturday afternoon, forcing the pilot to abort the flight.
Passengers on the Los Angeles-bound QF11 flight said they heard a “loud bang”, and saw black smoke emanating from one of the Boeing 747’s engine, an Australian Associated Press report said.
The captain reportedly announced that the engine had “cooked itself” and returned the plane to the terminal, where the 344 passengers disembarked and were put on another flight four hours later.
It was later determined that one of the engines of the 747 jet had a “turbine blade failure”, a Qantas spokesperson said in a Dow Jones story.
The engine would be replaced and the plane returned to service, the spokesperson added.
A string of incidents involving issues with Qantas’ plane engines have been highlighted by the Australian media.
In November last year, an Airbus A380 experienced a serious engine blow-out in mid-flight over Indonesia, forcing the carrier to ground its entire fleet of superjumbos.
After consultations with engine-maker Rolls Royce, the airline’s A380s have been progressively returned to service, with its long-haul service to Los Angeles resuming on Saturday.

New York-bound Qantas flight diverts to Fiji
2011-01-19 10:24:06.535 GMT

Jan. 19 (PTI) -- A New York-bound Qantas jet carrying 375 people made an unscheduled landing in Fiji due to a fault with one of its engines, just four days after another safety scare on one of its aircraft.
The flight from Sydney to New York, was diverted because of a fuel valve fault yesterday, a spokeswoman for the Australian airline said today.
QF107 left Sydney around 12.15 pm (local time) and was heading towards New York via Los Angeles when the flight crew spotted in-flight problem in the Boeing 747-400 aircraft, she said.
The plane was diverted to Nadi airport in Fiji and landed there at 6.20pm (local time), according to media reports here.
Engineers fixed the fault overnight and the flight was on its way to Los Angeles.
Earlier on Saturday, QF11 from Sydney to Los Angeles was preparing for take off when one of its engines experienced a contained turbine blade failure. The 344 passengers on board, some of whom described hearing a "loud bang", were moved to a second plane that departed four hours later.
The in-flight problem is the latest in a series of technical issues to plague Qantas since a November 4 engine blowout on one of its A380 aircraft, prompting it to ground its entire fleet of the superjumbo temporarily. PTI NC PBL AKJ PBL

Daje!? ...stiamo a sei problemi in pochi mesi, o sbaglio?!
